Why do you call them: Random thoughts 1 & 6?
so this dislike was not because he badmouthed someone I liked. Rather, it's a general thing - that I don't like people who find nothing but faults in their family members. Period.
That’s exactly how I felt.
The first time I was introduced to the character of Sirius Black, was when he rushed to close the curtains to his mother’s portrait, and when he roared: “Shut up, you horrible old hag”
I was stunned.
I couldn’t believe anyone could say those things to their mother (portrait or not).
And after what he said about his family and his dead brother; my dislike for the character was more confirmed.
As I said once: his death was a way to get rid of a potential danger/problem, and in the same time, drawing sympathy for his ‘predicament”.
Very occasionally I find his comments in the books funny (Hermioe's teeth come into mind), so at the back of my mind, he's witty in a ( ... )

I got bored a couple of days ago, so I made a list of random thoughts that I would like to put down in my LJ. It was supposed to be a short one, a couple of paragraphs for each topic. But somehow it grew and I never got a chance to touch upon the other topics. I'll get to them sooner or later, I suppose.
Really? You have a strange sense of humor.
I guess :-) I smiled the first time I read that scene, not because I didn't like Hermione (I do, a lot), but Snape's comment was funny. Well, I thought so, and later found out I wasn't the only one either.
I more think of it as ‘why waste energy “hating” a FICTIONAL character?’ That's an interesting line of thinking. I acturally wanted to discuss this, but decided against it since the piece was already too long-winded and un-focused. My feeling about this is that up to the time I joined the fandom, those people were all just fictional characters to me. So I didn't care one way or the other. But discussions in the fandom a lot of times ( ... )

I understand.
I never considered them as real, but when discussing them you are forced to ask "if this were you, how would you feel?"
The problem I found was that different people would feel differently about the same situation. That's OK as long as it doesn't (BUT IT SOMETIMES VERY MUCH DOES) take on a personal attack on the essay writers themselves! I was very surprised and quite annoyed when I first discovered that (now I learned not to care).
I'll be the first to admit that my perception of Snape and Black is no longer purely about fictional characters.
Now I'm worried about me!
It's sad though no one else seemed to care - I'd have loved to see how other people changed their perceptions of HP characters. It's FINALS and the weekend ( ... )

OR…you'll have a flood of comments two weeks from now.
Give it time.
We'll see. To tell the truth, I wasn't sure I should post this, not to a public forum anyway. As this post is mostly introspection, a way for me to discover exactly how I feel about all those topics of debete in the HP fandom. At the very least, it helped me to sort out my own thoughts, so it served its purpose already.
