Fic: Footsore

Feb 21, 2011 17:25

Summary: Lestrade takes care of Mycroft, whether he wants it or not
Rating: G
Type: Quiet and fluffy
Word Count: 2500

This is definitely a sequel to A Reliable Man, but I think it stands alone and you don't need to read Reliable to read this.  Just a little slice of life as two men get more comfortable with each other.

I cannot begin to say how much I covet Mycroft's various bathrooms.

Love how you write these two as independent people who are in a new relationship. They still and may always need a certain amount of space. That feels very true to me.

"- probably had them scared they'd be posted to the Falklands -" Hee!

In my head canon, Mycroft is a closet sybarite. When he's at home and no one can see he enjoys the sensual pleasures. Removes the tie, softens the stiff upper lip, and revels in his custom made bathtub.

(and this is fic, so anything is possible, even that bathtub and a hot water system that behaves!)

I can't see these two as immediately living together in a riot of sex and happily ever after.

Lots of learning to fit together, lots of needing to let the other one manage on his own despite them both being rather into taking charge and fixing things. But also lots of taking charge and fixing things because both of them need that more than they realised.

Aww, so sweet! But also very realistic at the same time. I like the way you've shown the bit after "happily ever after" and how things don't just fall perfectly into place. I like that you address how relationships are hard work and there's alot of insecurity, especially when it's new. Just excellent.

Thanks for that. I've never been able to see these two as instant fits, so it's going to take a bit of work to make a go of it.

I was hunting through reclists in these final weeks before Season 2 premieres in the US and found this series yesterday. I really loved your Lestrade and his observations. It was gritty and wry and a great study of 'ordinary' police work vs. the flashy problems that Sherlock likes and then to have to deal with a Posh Bastard on top of everything else. Great work - thank you for sharing it.

Last night was my night of "way more walking than I'm used to" complete with blisters. If I reread the massage, I can almost feel it, and relax from the pain enough to sleep mmmm...
