Summary: Time without sunshine is not always without light.
Dislaimer: Only the plot device is mine.
We’d been trapped here for at least two weeks, judging by our sleeping patterns alone. The windows were boarded and the doors were sealed tight. The small cabin, once seen as a sanctuary, had become our prison. No moonlight, no sunshine. Only the conjured candles to light our waking hours.
We first met here, on what we considered neutral territory, for me to convince him that a truce was necessary between us. After hours of yelling, quite a few hexes, and several punches, a tense silence fell ominously. We calmed enough to realize that we were no longer secreted away.

Our meticulously placed wards warned us that Death Eaters were lurking about, seeking a way in. I had been followed, my loyalty doubted.
We reinforced the wards and were forced to into the truce that I craved. Potter insisted that we fight our way out. Another argument ensued, interrupted by a blast from the fireplace, as bright as sunshine in the darkness of the cabin.
We hastily blocked the reinstated floo and settled in for an indeterminable wait.
During the wait, we worked together to conjure food, bedding and running water. Time settled in around us and the arguments ceased.

I decided that Potter wasn’t bad company after all. Not that I would admit it to him, but I do believe he saved me from insanity.
Many times the darkness and solitude threatened to overwhelm me and Potter would conjure a chess set, a potions manual or something to occupy me. Conversations were enjoyable and intensely invigorating, like sunshine after a torturous night. Potter was more intelligent that I had previously given him credit for.
We intentionally forgot our animosity, an unspoken agreement to leave it and its causes behind. There were even times that wondered if he was flirting.
~*~*~*~
We were sleeping (for the sixteenth time) when a loud commotion outside woke us. We had no way of knowing what was happening, but we were positive they were sounds of war.
We sat helpless, anxious, and silent. We waited a long time after the noise died down before we acted. Whether it was an act of cowardice, one could argue.
I stood as Potter magicked away the boards from one window. Sunshine blinded us for a moment, then we looked upon the faces of salvation.
Aurors were disapparating with captured Death Eaters. Lupin and Minerva were analyzing the wards.

I removed the seal on the door and motioned for Potter to go ahead. I knew Minerva would plead my case to the others and was not afraid to step out behind him.
After greetings and explanations, Potter assured Lupin that he was fine and then Potter and I were alone.
Potter looked to the sun and I followed suit. Then he faced me and kissed me. I was too surprised to respond.
Potter released me and gave me a smile, then dissaparated.
I did not miss the sunshine as much as I had thought. Potter’s smile was ample substitute.
