Astrotrain brooded silently as he leaned against the wall with folded arms and watched Threnody and Scourge pore over the information they'd just gotten from Rodimus, feeling soothed by the soft murmur of their voices as they worked out the encryption and snorted at the Autobot leader's included jokes and wisecracks.
Jaw clenching slightly, he lifted his optics and looked at the far corner of the office, where the runty green and yellow Seeker had passed out at his post again and was laying in a crumpled heap as he recharged. Something about the little thing reminded him of Threnody when she was that size and his mouth twitched into an absent grin.
Miss those days. I felt like I was making a big difference in the world.
He sighed, his expression going moody. She needed me. That felt nice too. Only a glorified go-for now, and the runt's taking even that.
Scourge looked up at the sigh, her brow plates lifting and her mouth twitching as she saw the look on her mate's face. "My lady, I think we need to save this for tomorrow. You need to recharge, and I need to remind a mech how to smile."
"Hmmm?" The young Empress looked up, then glanced at her bodyguard and blinked as she blushed.
"Very well." She locked and switched off the datapad, then tucked it into subspace before standing briskly and raising her voice. "This data is too important to handle with weary processors. Astrotrain and Scourge, you're dismissed. Scourge, I want you back here at the start of the next day cycle, when Astrotrain reports."
Astrotrain gave his usual gruff nod, then pushed away from the wall to follow her till she shut herself into her quarters.
"Hmmm." Scourge stretched, then reached over and wrapped her fingers around his larger ones as she smiled up at him.
"What?" His mouth twitched, gloomy thoughts forgotten as his optics brightened.
She leaned against him, slipping an arm around his waist as she answered in a low voice, "I'm glad you're mine."
The twitch became a grin as he leaned down to kiss her. "So'm I."
"Good." She switched her optics off and enjoyed the gesture of affection, concentrating on scrambling his processor a little.
He straightened up, blinking and sucking in air to cool his CPU, and she laughed and tugged his arm imperiously. "Come to bed before you fall down."
"Yes, sir." He stumbled over his feet, grinning widely.
Later, laying on their berth, he watched her snuggle and sleep and mused that she didn't need him.
But maybe being wanted is just as good?
