"Ah'da thought Primus would'a sent ya back in better condition," fussed Chromia softly as she helped Ironhide out of his armchair. "Y'never creaked like this before."
"Ah was two thous'n years younger then, darlin'." The red and black mech grinned at her even as he winced at the chorus of squeaks and pops that came from his joints. "It's 'bout time Ah started slowin' down a little 'n usin' mah head instead'a mah fists."
Chromia just shook her head as she shifted her grip on his hands and then pulled his arms around her waist. "Can't believe I kin do this again."
Ironhide's grin widened as his grip tightened. "Ah feel sorry fer Prowl."
His mate blinked and looked at him sideways, wondering at the topic change.
Ironhide chuckled and nuzzled her helm. "He don't got nobody ta cuddle with."
"He'll be alrahght. The others won't let 'im drift." Chromia rested her head against Ironhide's chest and listened to the strong, steady, living song of his spark, then rubbed her hand against his back. "It's good ta have the two'a ya back."
"Hrrrrm." Ironhide purred at the back rub, a contented grin on his craggy face, then glanced at the couch and down at Chromia with a hopeful expression. "Pansy's got th' kids...."
Chromia laughed and turned the back rubbing into a smack. "Yeah, because she knew how y' were gonna be, ya big suck."
Ironhide just grinned and rumbled as he snuzzled close. "So whaddya say? Ah'm feelin' a might tired...."
"Ah bet." Chromia shook her head, but let herself be lead to the couch and then helped her mate lay down on it before snuggling against him.
He sighed and wrapped her in his arms, then shuttered his optics and gave her a gentle kiss before settling down to gently rub her back in turn. "Ah love ya, Chromia. 'N Ah'm glad t' be here. When Primas tol' me we was gonna be one agin' Ah thought 'e meant you was gonna come with me."
She looked up into his slightly faded optics, seeing the faint memory of lost Allspark song there, then kissed him, hoping to wipe away the pain.
Their heads were spinning pleasantly by the time she stopped, and she rested her head against his chest with a sigh as his spark rumble faded toward the quiet steadiness of recharge. It was a sound she'd never thought to hear again, and being able to be here, wrapped in his arms and knowing that he'd be able to hug their sparklets and interact with the living world again nearly made her reboot in her efforts to believe it was true. Chromia sighed as she thought of the other mech who had been sent back with her mate, then sent a soft petition to Primus and the Greatest Creator that Prowl would be granted his own people to love.
There was a whisper in her spark, so faint that she wondered if she'd imagined it. But she decided to take the comfort it had seemed to offer as her creator's reply to the affirmative to her request. Ironhide's contented rumbling got through to her then, and as it had so many times in the past the sound soon had her relaxing to the point where she joined him in recharge.
Surrounded by arms she had thought would never hold her again, Chromia slept in peace.
