Astrotrain woke to a processor that felt like it'd been rinsed in acid, circuits that ached at the thought of moving... and a femme in his arms.
He lay and considered this last for a moment, then cleared his vocalizer to be sure that it was still there and said softly, "Scourge?"
"Mmmm?" her reply was ghostly.
"Are you awake?"
"No."
"Oh." The triple changer frowned as he considered the ramifications of this. Was she telling him to shut up? Or just saying that she wasn't ready to face the day yet? Only one way to know, and being hit or shot couldn't hurt any worse than he already did. "Do you know where you are?"
"Yes."
"Are you mad at me?"
"No."
"Do you know what happened last night?"
"No."
"Do you want me to let go of you so you can get up?"
"No." She made a decided, though cautious, snuggling motion.
He considered further. "Do you know what we were drinking?"
"No."
"What we were celebrating?"
"No."
"...Were we celebrating?"
"Yes."
"Do you want me to shut up?" His own voice was making his processor pound.
"Yes."
Silence fell over the room and he was sinking back toward recharge when the door slid open.
"Oh, Astrotrain." Threnody's voice was mercifully low and soft with amusement. "When I told you to put her to bed I didn't mean yours."
He peeked at her cautiously, wincing at the pain of the light. "Oops...?"
She strode over and looked down at him, and Scourge opened bleary optics to look back, still appearing very disinclined to move.
"At least you're both still functioning." The young femme scowled. "We nearly lost Dirge and Ramjet."
"Buh?" Astrotrain got both optics online and stared at her as Scourge frowned with confusion.
"The energon was spiked," explained Threnody. "The perpetrators attacked three hours ago."
"What??" Astrotrain pushed himself up on one elbow, letting go of Scourge, who scowled and elbowed him sharply so that he crumpled and curled around her to nurse his dented anatomy.
"We were ready for them," said Threnody. "When I saw how many of you were incapacitated I called Rodimus."
Her smile brought both her creators to mind; Cyclonus' calm and Galvatron's fierceness. "They won't attack again soon."
"Good." Scourge's voice held approval, though it staticked around the edges with pain. "Very good."
Threnody put a gentle hand on her mentor's shoulder, applying a pain override. "Rest and heal. I'll send Pitstop here as soon as he's finished with the battle casualties."
"No need." Scourge smiled her slight smile and snuggled again. "I'm comfortable."
Her young liege blushed faintly and applied the painkiller to Astrotrain before turning toward the door. "Very well. The celebration for this victory will be held as soon as everyone's finished recovering from celebrating the last."
Astrotrain watched her leave the room, then blinked and settled with his back to the wall. "So that's what we were doing. Okay... I think I'm up to date now. I should probably shut up, huh?"
"Yes." Scourge smiled and pulled his arm back around her, then offlined her optics.
