So upset. Eaves collapsed under the weight of snow and ice at the back of my 1950's vintage local wood motel, all old panelling. I can't even rent one room until it's fixed. Now the snow is gone, I got a bid, insurance finally paid up, and we're golden ( Read more... )

That *sucks*.

And fuck them - if they're this willing to fuck you over, they don't deserve *any* loyalty. It's also possible that the actual owner of the hardware store doesn't know what's going on. I'd start there first, with BBB stuff in hand, and unleash Twitter on them.

I despise people like that.

I'm so sorry, bb. Best of luck, hope it turns out in your favor.

Thanks, hon. I appreciate somebody telling me I'm not wrong. So much, you just don't know. Everybody here is all, oh, you don't want to make the contractor mad, just bend over and take it...
I do worry that the manager at Ace doesn't know, and needs to know, what happened. But the next nearest hardware store is another 30 miles away. I don't want to deal with petty revenge BS everytime I go in there, though, which, since this guy is a manager, not the noob he pretended to be, is almost guaranteed.
I *will* go to BBB, and if they say I can't put in an anonymous complaint, I'll take it to the Ace manager first.
I needed a hug, so thanks again!
Hope your spring is springier than mine!

Get your insurance company on it. They're paying for it, after all. And it might invalidate your policy if the work isn't as specified. Talk to them before you talk to the hardware store. And don't pay the builder anything either until you've talked to the insurers.

If you paid for seasoned timber and got chipboard who has pocketed the difference in the price? Sounds like someone has a scam going and you want to be sure your insurance company knows it isn't you.
