If it can inspire that much ire, and mess up so much in only the first half-hour...yikes.

I'm just going to stick to re-reading the books.

You're a wise man. It has occasionally followed salient plot points...but they feel like the teleplay writer just got lucky or something.

I am very, very unsurprised. I don't think the producers were even trying to be vaguely faithful to the essentials of series. If I were LeGuin, I'd be horrified.

And that is why I stayed away from the Sci-Fi channel this evening.

Amen.

Mine? Heh...no! If I were to do that it'd be a triple crossover with Belgarath and Polgara (from David Eddings' Belgariad) and Gandalf dscending on Ged and Jasper and making both of them wish they'd never learned to speak, let alone speak to each other. :-D

You expected something more of a SciFi Channel miniseries?

When I first saw they were doing LeGuin, I was very excited. I was also excited when I heard USA was doing Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon. I have since learned not to get impressed when my favorite books make it to the little screen, especially when done by SciFi. Ever since whatsherface took the helm, it has sucked huge monkey sized chunks of something incredibly unpleasant ( ... )

Bonnie also banished MST3K to Saturday mornings, has greenlighted unconscionably irresponsible paranormal 'documentaries,' and made SFC unviewable by anyone who doesn't want their series in four-hour marathon doses.

I have no idea about the rest of those, but I think this travesty is enough for me to curse her name. Or curse the name of the scriptwriter...cause, really, he's the one who fucked the story over.
