- Most of you probably already know this, but just in case - some "fixes" from other people who know more about this than I do:
- Subject lines: if you want to keep them, you need to make sure you don't have customised comment pages disabled, even if you're already in S2 (which most people are).
Go to the userinfo page, then click "Journal" > "Journal Style", then "Customize Selected Theme" (at the bottom right of the page). Then, under "Presentation" > "Basic Options" > "Disable customized comment pages for your journal", select "No".
- Journal Style: the journal style that'll get your comments to look the most like the default page is Minimalism - Georgia. (Of course, this means the rest of your journal style will change, too.) [From here.]
- Drop down menu for icons: if you set your comment pages in an S2 style, you will still get the drop down menu instead of having all of your icons load, which seems to be problematic for a lot of users. [From here.] (And via "Profile" > "Settings" > "Display", you can choose to view other people's journals in your own style, if you're not already.)
(And in case you're wondering about issues cropping up and if it's just you, other users have reported problems such as icons with several keywords being unusable, their browser crashing more quickly if they have several tabs open, comment boxes not loading at all, comment pages loading more slowly, problems with bookmarked threads, and some other problems mentioned here.)
- On the upside, according to this post, they're planning on developing an S2-style that would look and function the same way the old comment pages did. Let's hope they do, because according to this post, they plan on effecting all the changes made to S1-style comment pages on S2 styles next year, as well.
- According to some comments made on the lj_releases post, it looks like the comment page "update" is part of a site-wide redesign. All potential information is in Russian, so I have no idea if it's true, but the prototypes certainly seem to exist.
manonon translated the link pages so you can at least see which page might look like what, even if the pages are in Russian. There's nothing there I can't live with, except perhaps the prototype userinfo pic page - looks like they've scratched the "comment" line, which is going to make it hard to credit icon-makers...
- There seems to be some confusion on whether igrick, the guy who first announced the beta-version of the release, and who has been loudly ignoring everyone's complaints, is the head of LJ Russia or just a guy from the company LJ hired to do the redesign. Let's hope it's the latter, because otherwise this doesn't sound particularly encouraging... [Edit: Oh, fuck, it looks like he's the head of LJ Russia, after all. :/ With that kind of attitude, we're in for a lot of fun.]
OTOH, someone just posted this nice reply they got from the LJ Care Staff, which seems to indicate they're at least listening... well, the Care Staff, anyway. I'm feeling sorry for everyone being shouted at, because most likely, they're not the ones making the decisions.
- On a more cheerful note, I do like the "new comment" label, and the option to view all your icons (... as long as it's working, anyway). Also, it's nearly Christmas. And the Merlin finale. :D (And yes, I have totally been waiting for an excuse to use this icon. DAFFY. <3)
(Edit: Oh, I do have to add, those "icons" now displayed for anon users are downright creepy. D:)
