Do any of you, lj friends, use twitter?  When I first heard about it I thought it must be social networking for kids between the ages of 10 and 14 because I couldn't think of who else would want to know the moment-by-moment doings of their friends.  I imagined the tweets: "listening to avril she's so cool" and "playing grand theft auto for the ( Read more... )

Don't you mean oil sands?

Do spaces count in the 140 character limit?

Isn't "tweeting" a completely artificial, less mockable substitution for "twitting".

1) Aren't tar sands and oil sands the same thing? Anyway, the book is called Tar Sands and it's about tar/oil sands. I'm sure people who are pro-extraction say oil sands and people who are opposed say tar. The latter sounds filthier.

2) Yes spaces count.

3) LOL yes I'm sure whoever comes up with the verb version of using social media networks was avoiding the word "twitting". I don't make stuff up, I just jump on the bandwagon.

When I first heard of Twitter I also assumed it was for little tweens (twitter, tween... it makes sense). I'm still not 100% clear on the concept.. is it like the Facebook status update but with more character space? Is that ALL it is?
I don't have any interest in signing up for it... Facebook and LJ are enough for me :)
P.S. Nothing to do at work has made me obsessively check Perez Hilton's website... it's an addiction that I really need to get help for!

I'm very confused about who had twitter first. I'll confess that it's possible that I had an account just to see what it was about but of my four tweets ever, this is my first:

Learning how to tweet.

and I'm certain that I learned the word "tweet" from you and that I had you in mind when I wrote the comment above, clearly intending it for my audience of two followers - you and Laura. So if I had an account first, I hadn't yet used it.

As for your last statement, I would consider tweeting more just for you if you hadn't just told me that it would ruin our delightful conversations. :)
