The raging party-of-the-school-year scene. It's the epitome of every high school after-prom party that you would see in a movie. What's supposed to be a small gathering of friends after prom turns into the raging party of the year. do you think it's because highschoolers are acting the role they're supposed to fill? does the media have enough influence on us to change the way we act/interact? quite possibly so, i'd say.

I think it's because the people who are observing the teenage culture and making movies out of it really aren't as stupid as we may think. In fact, I think it's because they are spectacular observers, and are able to capture things that teenagers do without convincing them that they actually do them. We are oblivious to our own nature... it's kind of interesting.
But I do agree with you... the media influences so much of today's teenagers. But I think that's a different kind of media. Like music and clothing, rather than movies.

Could be a combination of both? And yes Id have to agree with this observation. Its just a huge conforming ritual.

I don't know... wouldn't you say it had more to do with society being influenced by the portrayal of itself in the media and (sub)conciously changing itself to fit the picture?

When I was in high school it wasn't like that at all.
