Now I think Marcus is my favorite character! Everyone is my favorite characters! And you know what I want now, right? Yeah, more teenage Marcus, specifically so that we get more Gert and more Mr. Fredrick! And maybe some Marcus/Martin? ;)
lol, they're both pretty likeable guys so it's no wonder you can't decide who's your favorite.
The thing about Gert is she is a total live and let live woman without prejudice because the love of her life was a white man and they ran the farm together and put up with racist bullshit together and when he died of a heart attack it broke hers. She really wasn't interested in kids, but Marcus is her nieces kid and family is family.
Mr. Fredricks is harder to pin down. I can't figure out his age or anything. Just that he has a zero tolerance bullshit policy and the other teachers go along with it. He likes the kids that actually want to learn, tolerates the ones who are quiet and respectful and a hard ass to the ones who jack around in his library.
Teenage Marcus actually had a pretty boring life. Do chores, go to school, go to practice, do homework, game on Friday, maybe a date on Saturday night, lather, rinse, repeat. Once he realized, really realized, he was out of the projects he decided he wanted to be something and buckled down
