a traveling I will go

Jan 06, 2016 19:11

So, it's Wednesday, in less than three days I will be on an airplane for the first time in my life. (flying as an infant totally does not count) To say I'm having stress is an understatement. Though, the stress is only about making it to the airport on time since I'm driving to meet friends in Iowa Falls and then we're driving up to Minneapolis to ( Read more... )

*huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugs* First of all, a round of applause and high fives for doing this, even though new is scary as hell, and not just staying home, bound in by fears. Try to shut those voices out (says I who has those little voices in her head all the time).

Actually, as one who gets panic attacks, my advice would be to find out what calms you down, gets those voices to calm down a little, and see if you can replicate that. Like, for me scrolling through pictures (fandom pictures of course) and gifs has a soothing effect, so I go through tumblr and try to focus on the images. I also have a (very old...and bald) bear I rub (nervous energy) and I'll bring him on the plane. When I was much younger and in the hospital alone for a week, I listened to Harry Potter on cd because Stephen Fry's voice is soothing. Or some people like music. Or a book you find comforting. You get the idea. It helps. And I hope you discover some wonderful experiences (after the flying part lol) on your vacation and that you have a blast!

Thank you dear. I've been doing my breathing exercises and meditation in order to achieve calm, it helps a bit. Driving is what calms me down and since I have to drive three hours to meet up with my friends, hopefully I'll be in a decent state of mind when we meet up.

Thank you. I'm actually looking forward to the flight part, as much as situations outside of my control scare me I do like new experiences. The Boy (my son) has flown tons of times and says it's a piece of cake.

Are you going to the Cayman Islands? The cruise Sis n I want to take goes out of Miami and goes to the Caymans. About the anxiety, I get like that bf a big travel too, esp when you have to be a certain place by a certain time. But the travel will be the worst of it. Once you're there, you'll forget all that, forget everything but your vacation and all that worry will seem for nothing!

HAVE FUN, BABE!

We're doing a western Caribbean; Cozumel, Mahogany Bay, Belize and Grand Cayman in seven days. I'm really looking forward to the cruise part, it's like you said, having to be a certain place by a certain time is very stressful.
