What are the locked posts between players meant for? To discuss who might be a wolf?

Sometimes, yes. Locked posts simply are post for which people which to discuss things in private should one think it may be too careless to speak about in public.

It may be discussing voting strategies, who you voted for, who seems suspicious... basically anything you wish to say but do not want to draw attention on yourself should the wolves find you too smart for their own good.

Usually. Most sheep are rather lost for the first couple of days. Which is why it is necessary to talk to others. Get a feel of what their thoughts are, look for inconsistencies.
