Oh look! Part 20 of the Going Forward! In you didnt know, its the sequel to Going Native, tagged trekfic, and is tagged as goingforwardfic here. Its a BSG/STNG crossover that is now delving into the Dominion War.
Valient - the ultimate VipernorgcoSeptember 28 2011, 02:56:23 UTC
Good part and nice to see someone finally GETS the Defiant class ships. I look forward to seeing the Valient flown like Hephaestus own version of a Viper, rather than the lumbering whales that Starfleet uses.
Nice also that we have Gaeta bring the Cadets in without trouble, Barclay being Barclay, and the Admiral's 'don't you DARE scratch the paint' attitude.
If they can repair Valient - which seems to be the case - then the mission will continue but with a greater chance of success, right? So the next part will presumably be a 'meanwhile back at the ranch' scene with Tigh dealing with the 'oh, I'm a Cylon' issue.

Its just repair and a crew re-shuffle right?
Valient is not getting a jump drive or anything?
Because that makes a big difference to how it will be used. If they can't jump they can't travel with the other two ships, they would have to rendevous at pre-arranged points, go on a totally different mission, or go back and get a jump drive fixed. Jumping into potential combat attached to Galactica with the drive cold would be suicidal, so not happening.
The chances of Starbuck taking command just to command a ferry run to the workshops are too low for meaninful calculation. So, solo mission anyone?
Kara really needed a ship and this is the closest I can get to canon. The cadets will of course be split up and taught not to be such utter snobs. Yes, there will be crying, I am sure.
More Going Forward :) I really like the edge between Kara and Gaeta it seems real to how they would react to each other at this point. Also, 'don't scratch the paint' made me snort, because I can both believe Adama saying it and Gaeta repeating it.
Plot wise finding the Valiant gives Gaeta some interesting options. Kara can have a command (which leaves him needing an XO). I'm still waiting for the back at the ranch scene with Tigh, et al and dealing with the Cylons.
I kinda think that Gaeta, while a nice guy, has a tendency towards being an arrogant sarcastic jerk when he's in charge. He keeps it throttled down pretty well, but sometimes that side of him peeks out, usually at Kara (in Going Native, it was Lee who saw that guy)
Adama is so the sort to make some surly remark about the paint and Gaeta is exactly the sort to repeat to Kara for maximum effect. I don't consider Kara and Felix to be enemies at all, they're actually a good mix professionally, and they seem to be friends now. Not besties but Felix is in the circle.
Lifepod survivor countnorgcoOctober 5 2011, 10:25:19 UTC
What happened to all the Starfleet personnel rescued from the lifepods and shuttles at the rally point? I notice they are not mentioned as part of the re-shuffle to fill out the crews.
Given Starfleets tendency to go for huge ships with crews up to 1000 or so survivors from even one ship should go a long way to making up the shortage of trained people.
