Not sure if that is the real recipe, but I do know that when I had chai from Starbucks it tasted watery, and I was rather disappointed. I prefer Oregon Chai brand, because it has a stronger flavor, and it comes in several varieties, (Iced, regular, chocolate etc...) and is totally nummy. :)
i sincerely doubt it - for one thing, boiling milk is generally a very bad idea, and for another, if you get it *at* starbucks and they make it then, they pour a dark liquid into milk and then either steam or ice it
it breaks down the proteins and changes the flavour some. for things most people do, it mostly just makes it taste a little off and have a weird skin on top. if you were trying to make cheese or some sort of delicate custard, it just wouldn't work because of the changes in the proteins generally for things like coffee-shop chai, they make a condensed version of the stuff and add it to what's mostly milk. i'm rather fond of republic of tea's chai - brew it strong, then add a little cream and either honey or brown sugar
That recipe sounds about right all the spices are right... I'm going to Trader Joes right now... all this talk of Chai!
And about boiling milk, as long as you boil it gently and not for long, it's fine. Bringing milk to a gentle boil is the beginning of many a tasty dessert...

Perhaps the dark liquid is all the other stuff already prepared?
