It appears I only post here when I have a complaint or confession to make. But that's because my name isn't attached to this in any way, so I can complain anonymously--then go turn it private later ( Read more... )

Huzzah to you!! I'm so happy you are back with the bank. I didn't realize there was any unhappiness or anxiety working with the family friend, but I do remember how happy the bank made you.

I can relate to the "Being what others expect you to be" mode ... but you figured it out. Bobby Ferrin had it down. Be Happy. (don't worry either...)

Good for you, Lane! I think I need to talk to your therapist as well. :) Happiness is our first priority. :)

Hey, so...about that windowless tiny office where you never see anyone...are they interested in large, hairy former software guys? Because that sounds pretty damn good right about now.

Justin, feel free to send me your resume and I'll get it in the mix. I was hoping she'd let me bring her some candidates to expedite the hiring process, but it doesn't look like that will happen. The very best I can do is give her resumes. Also, expect this to take some time. It was a month between my first interview and getting hired. I'm told it was four months between the interview she had with the first person, and my first interview.

My resume is pretty worthless for whatever it is you did there. It's 99% software QA. Only the last entry, a few months doing research/personal assistant work would be relevant. Can't hope to get a gig like that with no experience, I was mostly being snarky at the concept of big old me sitting in a small windowless office doing entertainment stuff. But thanks, though.

Justin, you wouldn't be doing entertainment stuff. Sadly. Maybe once every 6 months. Mostly, you'd be answering the phone and making copies.

I got to this point about 10 years ago. I had killed myself when I was single, getting very successful, very nice titles, youngest/first female combinations of achievements at my company. I was okay with zillion hour work weeks and always striving to be shinier ( ... )
