First, apologies to anyone who might be actually following my posts, for the delay in updating. Been rather busy and haven't had much of a chance. But, I'm back, and here's another update. Today, and 'in London' day, we did something that we've not done in 25+ years of travel. Something that we have talked about doing for a while, though...
We went our own separate ways. Been wanting to try it for a while but it is rather hard to do on our US trips, seein' as how we're both rather dependent on my driving us somewhere. In England, especially in London, the dynamics are totally different. We both rely on mass transit. Perfect time to try it. And this Saturday seemed like a perfect day to try it.
Sadly. It didn't happen because we really wanted it to. I just could not go out - my feet were a puffed up mess and my knee was bothering me. So I figured it'd be a good idea to just rest in the room, in the hopes that I might be able to finish out the trip without having to take any more days off. So, Sandra plotted her solo day in London, with my help, looking up info online. A little after 9:00, she headed off and I began my oh-so-exciting day. I did have things I wanted to get done, so it wasn't a total loss...but that didn't make me feel any better about the fact that it seemed like I was creating a major 'bring down' for our trip.
Without getting into really boring specifics, I managed to get laundry done, listed my purchases and organized the receipts, took a shower, soaked my feet and watched TV. Slightly annoyed, last weekend Dave had been airing a bunch of Top Gear episodes. This week, when I would have welcomed the diversion? Darts. All freakin' day. (ok, from noon) Yawn-fest. So, I had to entertain myself on other channels-watched an ep of TMNT, a few "Come Dine With Me"s (they always put someone on there who's a regular bitch/bastard, don't they?), two eps of classic Star Trek and I was totally engaged in "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" when Sandra eventually returned to the room.
Oh, I also managed to surprise one of the cleaning ladies, who wasn't expecting me to be there. After she'd changed the towels, I figured I'd be home free for interruptions. Nope, about an hour later, a 2nd one came in and got totally flustered at my presence. Apologized profusely and said she'd come back. I said I'd be there all day, she still got flustered and left. That's when I put on the "Do not disturb" sign and put the dead bolt lock on. Didn't need some cleaning person coming in while I was in the shower.
And, apparently, the dead bolt lock is not affected by the key card...had to let Sandra in when she returned just after 3:00. Oopsy. Her day was spent at the Natural History Museum (and their butterfly house), the Twining Museum, Somerset House and a few other places. So at least the day wasn't a total loss.
Now, aren't you glad you waited all this time, for today's update? ;-)
Tomorrow, we planned to put an end to the 1/2 cemetery joke. Do we succeed? Stay tuned!
