Life of Pi Discussion Questions

I guess the biggest and most obvious discussion question would be whether the cover of the novel is correct in claiming that this story will make you believe in God. I am not finished with the book yet, so I can't say, but to those who are...did this story inspire or reaffirm your beliefs in God ( Read more... )

It's a dramedy, just like any life transitions are dramedies. My transition (or "The Wake-Up Call", as I think of it), came when my parents screamed a resounding "no" to me for the first/last time. This was after a lifetime of "yes", so it was new and disturbing. I don't think the book made me believe in God, just inspired a new thread of thought.

I think it's incredibly bold to claim any book (excluding religious scripture of any faith) will make you believe in God.

That being said, reading Life of Pi made me remember to appreciate little miracles in every day life. In Pi's case, those little miracles (like the first flock of flying fish) each helped him survive until he reached land. In every day life, it could be rediscovering the goodness of a friendship, finding a $5 bill when you're a little short of grocery money, or laughing at a joke in the midst of a depression ( ... )

It didn't change my outlook on God but rather it changed my beliefs about humans.
