Name: Guy Cecil [Gailardia Galan Gardios]
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Age: 21
Class: Swordsman
Timeline: Fake ending / timeskip / around the time he wrote to Luke.
History
Born to a noble house of Malkuth based on the Isle of Hod, Gailardia Galan Gardios was the younger of two children and the only male heir. Until his fateful 5th birthday, he lived in an estate with many servants, not unlike the Fabre estate. A knight by the name Fende also served Count Gardios, and that knight's son Vandesdelca was a dear brother figure to Gailardia. However, all that came to an end when during the celebration of Gailardia's 5th birthday, the Hod War began. Most of the Gardios family and their servants were murdered in Duke Fabre's attack on the estate. On a desperate effort to protect the heir of the house, Gailardia's older sister Marybelle and several maids shielded him from the invading forces, at the cost of their lives. Although they did save his life, the young Gailardia was buried for several days under a pile of women's corpses, an event so traumatic that he locked it away from his conscious memory, a severe case of gynophobia the only outward reminder of his plight.
Having escaped the literal fall of Hod into the Qliphoth, Gailardia and other survivors organized to exact revenge on Duke Fabre by destroying his family. Notably, he infiltrated the Fabre household as a servant under the name Guy Cecil (a nod to his mother's maiden name), accompanied by an old man who came to be known as the gardener Pere, who was his swordsmanship instructor. Vandesdelca was also privy to the revenge plans, but his plans and Guy's started to diverge by the time the former started dabbling in Fomicry. This brought another derailment to Guy's plans as a vital target, Fabre's only son, was kidnapped and seemingly returned home as a blank slate. Although he had been forced to at least appear to be Luke's friend for the sake of his plans up to this point, Guy developed genuine sympathy and even admiration for the severely amnesiac Luke, whose philosophy of "looking forward without being chained by the past" made Guy give more careful consideration to his goals.
Forced into the position of Luke's only friend as the boy was confined to the Fabre estate and Natalia had trouble accepting the fact that Luke's memories would not return, Guy settled into that role, and also something of a parental role, feeling responsible for Luke's education and moral development. Guy stopped viewing him as a target, though his hatred for Duke Fabre did not change, and thus he kept in contact with Vandesdelca, now a frequent visitor under the pretext of teaching swordsmanship to Luke, still thinking of him as an ally. It was not until the discovery of everything Van had done behind his back, such as creating a replica of Luke and planning to replace the entire world with replicas, that Guy considered their partnership to be through.
Guy's past objectives would eventually be used against him and the party when Sync, possibly instigated by Van (as Sync would not have known what to look for), placed a curse slot on Guy in retaliation for stealing a fon disc. The curse slot is a Daathic Arte that allows the user to take advantage of the victim's memories, giving the user a certain level of control in regards to at what time and which memories will take over the victim's consciousness, replaying those memories to an extent. Once placed, it will not wear off, but the user can only control it from a short distance, and if the victim is outside this range, there are no known side-effects. It can, however, be dispelled by a user of Daathic Artes. As with all Daathic Artes, it is assumed that only the Fon Master is able to use it. Guy did not recognize the curse slot for what it was when he received it, so the issue remained undetected until Sync had the opportunity and motive to activate it. This happened during a visit to Chesedonia. For a number of reasons including Ion's health condition and the fact that they had no other means of ensuring Guy would be at a safe distance from the user, they decided to simply keep moving on the occasion. The next time the subject came up was on the way to Grand Chokmah, the well-fortified capital of Malkuth. Sync activated the curse slot, resulting in Guy's attacking Luke, but had to flee when his presence was revealed. As they arrived at the capital, Guy was left under Ion's (and Anise's) care while the rest of the group met with the Emperor of Malkuth. Ion was able to remove the curse slot without complications except the ones he normally encounters when using Daathic Artes.
The party's allusions to how their journey might help with personal issues eventually became reality to Guy when witnessing an attempt by Anise's mother to protect Ion jogged his memory of the massacre in his own childhood and the reasons for his gynophobia. Although he was able to rationalize his fear of touching and being touched by women, he still displays the gut reaction.
After a long journey which involved going against the basic principle of Auldrant's religion, learning the truth about the state of the planet, achieving solid peace and deactivating a 2000-year old device the failure of which would have killed most of the world's population, the party was finally able to confront Van and emerge victorious. In the calm that followed, Guy, having had his past and motivations exposed, left his job as a servant of house Fabre and moved to Grand Chokmah, where his nobility status was recognized and he took to caring for the emperor's rappigs (something of a position of trust given how attached Peony is to his pets).
Personality
Guy is overall pleasant, with a level head, a good sense of responsibility and a genuine interest in helping out. Attention to detail, insight and the ability to say what people need to hear when they feel bad are also traits he can boast, although he is by no means perfect - for example, a lot of Van's actions went unnoticed to him during his time working for the Fabre household. Being knowledgeable about several topics, he is a good conversationalist as long as he can keep the spotlight away from himself. Because of how many things he has to hide, he does not fare so well when he becomes the topic of discussion - his best friend of seven years never knew he was an orphan until the subject came up because of a prank by Anise, and his avoidance of questions quickly alerted Jade to the fact he had things to hide.
Towards his friends, he can be extremely loyal, putting them above his desire for revenge and pushing the limits of his crippling phobia of women for their sake. People notice his loyalty, and this makes Guy's calling out on his friends' foolish acts, something he does not hold back on, particularly with those he has known longest, all the more effective. When he feels comfortable enough with someone, he might engage in light banter, although more often than not he uses it to reinforce a point. He tends to stick up for Luke a lot, even in face of Luke's shortcomings, like he did before and after the tragedy of Akzeriuth. The revelation that Luke is in fact a replica and has only existed for seven years made it much easier for him to defend his friend, and also made him realize just how big a part he played in Luke's life.
Guy might complain occasionally, but does not shy away from work, be it physical or mental, and is fairly adept at explaining complex concepts in an easy to understand manner, a skill possibly honed during his years with Luke. He also takes extensive interest in fon machines, and might briefly alienate others when his inner geek surfaces. Despite his gynophobia, he admits to liking women very much. Women also like him very much, but whereas he is content with looking, they insist on touching, which does not work very well for him. Thanks to his past trauma, he grew to dehumanize those at the giving end of suffering - he once told Luke that apologizing made it harder for the person being apologized too, as it would take away their scapegoat figure. However, closely watching how his best friend was crushed by the guilt of destroying Akzeriuth gave him a more tolerant view of the various sides of a conflict, understanding that victors are human too.
Appearance
Standing at 184cm tall and weighing 79kg, Guy is as fit as one would expect a swordsman to be. He has short blond hair and blue eyes. His adventuring outfit for the duration of the game is a button-up white undershirt (which curiously has the buttons on the left side), dark brown slacks and an orange outer garment that can be best described as a "tailvest", a cross between a vest and a tailcoat. The outfit is completed by brown knee-high boots, brown gauntlets, a choker from which a golden pendant hangs, and a loose green sword belt. As his fighting style requires him to wield the sheath, it is not actually attached to the sword belt.

Future Plans
Guy does not have a pressing need to hurry home (other than worries about keeping his job), though he would very much like to be reunited with his friends, so he will certainly be on the lookout for fellow off-worlders in hopes of meeting everyone again. Given a chance, he will probably pursue his more technical interests. At first he would only be interested in helping Dailantia out of a sense of duty, but as he spends time in this new world he will feel more strongly about it.

[Right about this moment, someone whose Odin Gauntlet is receiving broadcasts will see a blond young man, his eyes not really facing the capture device, but it is not shame that diverts his gaze - he is instead looking very intently at some point further down, which a more spatially-aware viewer might correctly guess to be the screen and controls of his own communication device.]
This is fascinating! I never expected to find such an intricate device that isn't based on fontech.
[The image flickers a bit and there is some crackling in the audio, but soon the transmission is good again.]
Looks like the people who built this didn't want it turned off that easily... Huh?
[His eyes move slightly upwards, though he still is not facing the capture device.]
It's... transmitting? I should be seeing something from the other endpoint if this is an end-to-end connection, so is it just sending out signals to whatever happens to pick them up?
[The young man appears to be in deep thought for a few moments, as though considering what to say. He needs to be careful - anyone could be... watching, he decides as he stares at the capture device, and there is no guarantee they will be friendly.]
Hello. My name is Guy, and I just found this device abandoned a few minutes ago. According to the data I could access, its identifier is 67796e6f70686f626963. I'm under the impression that this information can be used to call the device, so if you wish to speak with me, you can use it.
[More flickering and crackling as he fiddles with the controls. After a few seconds, the broadcast ends.]

The voice ringing inside his head felt distinctly different from the background chatter. Hearing mysterious voices now, was he? At least there was no headache. And just why was it that he was waking up in such a noisy place and not in the comfort of his bedroom? Lying on a bench no less. Surely he had not been drinking last night: he knew better, there was no headache and with a routine like his, who would have time for nights out anyway? His Majesty's pets were extremely demanding, after all.
The thought of the rappigs led to that of having to report to work, and without bothering to look at the sky to try and guess what time it was, Guy sprang up and darted off in the palace's direction, ignoring the odd looks he received here and there from people he had never seen before.
Wait. People he had never seen before? Granted, this was the imperial capital, a large city, but he would expect to have seen a few familiar faces along the way. Passersby could be just about anyone, but that none of the people doing business in that part of the city seemed to be the faces he had grown used to was... strange, to say the least. And that was not the only thing that felt off today. Quiet? No, that was not exactly it. He did wake up to the sound of indistinct chatter after all. Still, why would he think of "quiet"?
It was by chance that he caught a glimpse of the city walls that lasted long enough for him to really notice them. They were nothing but walls. And that was horribly wrong. The feeling of quietness, that had been the absence of the sound of running water that was always so prominent in the city. No one else seemed bothered by it, which was hard to imagine in water-blessed Grand Chokmah.
And what was that about a prince?
