Man, that guy needs to be raked over the coals in stupidpetowners. "Lionfish are too pretty to be dangerous. I didn't think I actually needed to KNOW anything about the animals I care for!"
And that makes it better how? They both agreed to buy and keep a poisonous pet, yet neither of them bothered to learn what to do in case one of them got stung. And when something DID happen, they were stunned to find out their little darling was dangerous and sold her! That's right up there with "I had no idea pythons strangled things, and now my teacup poodle is gone." Would it have killed them to do a Google search before purchasing an expensive, rare, and finicky animal like a lionfish?
No, because the simple fact of the matter is he should have done more RESEARCH into HIS PET. Saltwater fish, while (hopefully!!) bred in captivity, are still very complicated wild animals that one should understand in order to take care of properly. ESPECIALLY with venemous animals. If he knew it was at all venomous he should have researched how much and when and why and warning signs and proper treatment for him should he get stung.
I understand that and it defnatly was dumb and irresponsible. I think for me it doesnt piss me off that much if they were only putting themselves in danger. I mean, so many people put themselves in obvious (or what should be obvious) danger all the time and while its stupid, if they'd rather not take the time to simply look up their pet (which wouldnt take that long) and would rather take the risk of getting hurt, then whatever, you know? If they had kids (which we dont know one way or the other) or exposed other people then THAT would really piss me off. But if I got pissed off whenever someone was an idiot safety-wise (EVERYONE who smokes for example), I'd be pissed off all the time :-) (I'm not saying you should feel this way, your take on it is totally understandable and valid...I just wanted to put in my two cents).
I'm gonna have to agree with deborah. People do stupid things that put themselves in danger all the time. I am not sure why the method being a dangerous fish should really piss you off anymore than any other stupid thing people do. I mean if it had hurt someone else or if the fish had been hurt that would be a different story. You seem to be assuming that people should do way more research than most people actually do. I understand you thinking they were stupid (and making fun of them) but I don't understand the anger you feel.
