Character Information
General
Canon Source: Ergo Proxy
Canon Format: Anime series
Character's Name: Raul Creed
Character's Age: 28 years old.
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. N/A
What form will your character's NV take? Raul Creed’s communicator will be a
notepad that is used to put in notes and is able to flip through, just as if there were real pages in the book. Everything can be done by this, such as writing, reading, sending pages to other books by just a single touch. Notes can be made by using a finger or a tablet pen. For audio use, an earpiece comes along with it.
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Raul has no supernatural abilities, but as the Director-General of the Citizen Security Bureau in his original canon, Raul has many other abilities that are noteworthy. He is skilled with breaking into anything that has a hard drive or a mainframe and leaving without a trace. He is skilled with math and logistics, is able to retain a vast amount of knowledge and use it to his benefit. Just as well, he is skilled with a gun, as well as has superb people skills.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? For the dormant ability, Raul will be able to bypass any mechanized lock or security measure, whether its not appearing on a security camera, to being able to pass through laser sensors unnoted. This does not include hacking into computers, nor does it mean being able to pass through solid surfaces.
Weapons: For weapons, Raul only brings a small pistol already loaded and an extra clip.
Other Items: While he does not have much in the way of weapons, he does bring a few more objects on his person when he first arrives. The coat he’s wearing has few pockets, and he has his identification card that bears his name, age, DOB, height, weight, blood type, position within Romdeau (Director-General of the Citizen Security Bureau), citizen status, and his identification number. He also carries with him a small, compact device that looks like a small USB drive. It can record pictures as well as video, display information, and any picture projected from it displays on a small holographic screen. Lastly, he carries a picture of him and his AutoReiv companion daughter, Pino, which she drew for him.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Wikipedia Entry for Canon History Raul Creed was born, or created, where all human life began in Romdeau, which is within the Womb-sys, which ids a contained system for artificial biological reproduction, seeing as how all Romdeau humans are created sterile. This shows that over the course of his short developmental period, every biological predisposition was already oput into place and monitored in preparation for his future; the role of a functional citizen of them dome, Romdeau. For Raul, he was most likely bioengineered to have a role in an administrative position, and as such, he finally was promoted to the position of Director-General of the Citizen Security Bureau, which is the security for the entire dome.
Before he was promoted to that station, he was married to Samantha Ross. While it is unclear how they met, when they got married, or what either person’s family was like, the fact remains that he was married for a brief period of time, and together they had one daughter, an AutoReiv companion (which is an Artificial Intelligence robot that has the form of a child) by the name of Pino. As well, Raul had another AutoReiv Entourage (which is an Artificial Intelligence robot that has a vaguely adult humanoid form) named Kristeva, who he clearly has more of a relationship bond with than his own wife. While not stated in canon, his wife does wear her hair like the AutoReiv, in a possible attempt to be the person her husband would want to be with, instead of an AI. It is presumed that when Raul was first appointed to the station of Director of Security, the first month or so was fairly uneventful, though the outbreak of the Cogito virus, which gives AutoReivs, in essence, a “soul”, was beginning to strike fear into the hearts of Romdeau citizens.
While his wife was more interested in getting rid of Pino and gaining an actual human son, the Proxy that had broken out of the laboratory that it was in had already gone and attacked Re-l, the Regent’s granddaughter. After being told of the “monster” that attacked her, he put it in the report that she was suffering from temporary insanity, leaving her to believe that nothing was going to be done. In actuality, he began researching everything about this monster specimen that had escaped, as well as anything he could find in the database about “Proxies”. He is more concerned with the Cogito virus than the monster, and shows signs of anger when the Regent and his Entourages tell him that the death of citizens was not a concern, because they will always be able to just make more.
When he gets called to the mall for an appointment, he goes there with his wife and his new baby son in a carriage. Perhaps trying to appear normal, or doing what they, the Entourages and the Regent want him to do, which is to have a family and some stability in his life so that he does not burn out as quickly as the other security directors have is not certain, but for what it is worth, when the monster comes tearing through the mall, killing both his new son and his wife, he does not show any sadness at there passing. Instead, he shows more sadness at the fact that he thinks Pino has been destroyed, which is why he goes back to his home after their deaths, playing the piano in a despondent sort of way. Because of these attacks, everything in Romdeau gets shut down, and Vincent Law, the immigrant gets away. Raul thinks that the Proxy is after Vincent, and when he sees Vincent and Pino, still alive, go outside and the door gets shut, he becomes angry at Vincent, because he assumes he killed his family; his family only being Pino.
When he tries to get them to go outside and find Vincent, just to bring him back so they can punish him properly (no one is let outside the dome, after all, and to do so is treason), he can be seen being more vengeful than anything else, wanting to hurt the man who took his family away. When Re-l comes back with Hoody, not Vincent, after being outside, he becomes extremely angry, and does not let up even when they kill Hoody. Instead he goes back to work, and when he hears that Re-l has been killed, and he talks with the Regent and his Entourages, he slowly begins to realize what is really going on. During this time, Daedalus has been causing small blackouts in Romdeau to gain energy for the Monad Proxy. When a blackout lasts two minutes and seventeen seconds, he is able to trace it back to Daedalus because of the same numbers in his identification number.
“That is when I heard your heartfelt cry.” He goes to Daedalus under the guise of a medical exam, even though Daedalus is not a certified physician anymore, having been stripped of his certification. They have a conversation where Raul realizes that the Monad Proxy has been revived, and they both realize that the Regent was the one who ordered Re-l, his granddaughter, to be killed. He then tells Daedalus to work under his jurisdiction, and reinstates him under his authority, bypassing the Regent. In the same span of time, Daedalus gets uppity with him, making him use excessive force against him in a display of power. More time passes, and in a rather odd scene, Raul sees a broadcast of a quiz show that Vincent, Re-l, and Pino are all on. During this show, he sees that they are all alive, but that Vincent has connections to the Proxy. He becomes angry, and when he realizes that they are heading to Mosque, another domed city that cannot sustain life anymore, he starts to make plans to blow it up.
This started his delusions of seeing Vincent Law everywhere he went, and seeing that he already blames him for everything that has happened, he becomes more and more enraged. When he goes to the Regent, he talks to the Entourage, and then leaves after telling them that they are horrible for not caring if people die, as well as constraining him so he can’t go after Vincent, as they say, “You have no authority to ask these questions” in response to all of his questions. However, even though they send him away and erase his name from the system, he has already programmed the bomb to go off when his name gets erased, no matter what. With the bomb gone and destroyed Mosque, they go to arrest him, only to find he is home and playing the piano, the one connection he has left to Pino, who he taught to play. He sees Vincent in the window, but it disappears as quickly as it came.
When they bring him in for questioning, he says, “We don’t need any gods”, and then goes on to say that all he was doing was trying to save Romdeau. Because of this, they give him back his job and his authority, even though the Regent lets him know that “you will know of our great despair”, and lets Raul know that they don’t care if Romdeau dies. Knowing this, he goes to Daedalus, and they start a new project called “Project Aus Der Wickel”. The basic premise of the project is to get humans to be able to reproduce again, so that they can reconstruct humanity, stop the need for a Womb-sys, and become a self sustaining world again. Unfortunately, no more people were being made, and more and more were dying from the Cogito virus. In short, everything started to go to hell, with riots starting, and a human versus AutoReiv war began. It takes him awhile to realize when Re-l was back in the city, and when he learns of her, he goes to the Regent himself to wait there for her, and to intercept the Ergo Proxy. Daedalus had given him special bullets that would kill Proxies, which made use of the one thing Proxies can die from, which is sunlight. He waits for a long time, hidden in the Regent’s main room, and even when the Regent is killed, he makes no move. Once the Regent is dead, he shoots Ergo Proxy, laughing rather crazily, and the Proxy tears off his own arm to make sure he doesn’t die.
Realizing that he hasn’t killed him, he shoots at him again, seven times in all, and misses. Running back to Daedalus, he goes to get more bullets, and ransacks his office looking for them, as Daedalus sits by with the fake Re-l Mayer and tells him that he threw all the bullets away. While Daedalus is openly mocking him, he becomes consumed by anger, trying to shoot Daedalus, but he was stopped by the fake Re-l Mayer, who stabbed him with her own hands to prevent him from hurting Daedalus. From there, he stumbles in pain back to his home, because he intended to die on his own terms. When he comes to his home, he sees pictures/drawings scattered all around that had been left there by Pino. Taking the picture she had drawn of him and her together, happy, he decides to go look for her, going back to the mall where his family was killed.
In this time, while not stated, he does realize that his “raison d’etre”, or, his “reason for being” was in fact the AutoReiv daughter that he loves and misses. In the mall, he hears the music that she has been playing, which is the song he has taught her, and is then unceremoniously pushed aside by a passing AutoReiv, and is impaled on a piece of glass, and then dies.
Point in Canon: Raul will be taken post-death from episode 23. All history pertaining to this ending is summarized in the last two paragraphs of the history.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A
Character Personality: When first met, Raul Creed is shown to be a rather emotionally cold person. Like any citizen of Romdeau, he has the required calm, cool, and collected way of dealing with things that would turn another man to a breakdown. He starts to show even the smallest cracks in his usually cold demeanor when he is told that he cannot do something that he feels he should be able to do, and do his own way. He is very prideful, both with himself and his work, and is extremely arrogant with everything and everyone around him. In his mind, he can do no wrong, and when he is shown any failure, he can become extremely angry.
In many ways, Raul Creed is a bit of an anomaly for Romdeau citizens. He is incredibly idealistic, and a revolutionary in his own right. In a world where logic and calm reigns supreme, someone who is passionate is a rarity. The cold and restrictiveness of the world he lived in only helps to heighten his views. In his arrogance, he thinks that what he thinks is what is good for humanity, though it might not necessarily the best. He believes himself to be unable to be touched, and that he is the only one who can lead the people of Romdeau to a new world order, which everyone will love him for it. Its clear that he is not doing this for respect of a want to have other people like him, but because he feels he’s the only one who can do so.
Even with the logical side to him, he has moments of anger that reveal how unstable he can be when he lets his anger get the better of him. When the Regent does not let him do the job he needs to do, he becomes angry, very vengeful and spiteful. He does not do well under authority unless it’s his own. He has been called reckless before, but feels that being reckless was the one way to get a situation under his control. With this, he shows that he does certain things, reckless or not, because he is a rather emotional man hidden beneath a layer of calm. He is also very manipulative, again, doing whatever it takes to make sure that the work he wants to do get done, no matter what anyone else would say or think. This is how he gets most of the work he wants done through others.
However, even when his wife and new son are killed, he does not show sadness, does not show anger, does not, in fact, show anything that one would think someone should show because of the relationship between people of that nature. His only real moment of what can be called sadness is when he thinks that his AutoReiv daughter, Pino, has been incinerated and destroyed. He is a man that keeps his own counsel, whether by not talking to anyone, or only talking to the two who will not say a word, in this case, two beings that are not even human. He is a rather opinionated individual, and does not enjoy hearing the opinions of others. Whatever he does is right, and anything else is wrong.
As for his interactions with others, he can either care or not. Very much “My way or the highway” approach, he will not try and convince others that he is right. Either they believe him or not, he could care less. If you join him, the better, and if not, he will not even say goodbye when he walks out the door.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Due to his background and his general personality, Raul Creed would try to work in any administrative and corporate division that he can find, most exceptionally, one that would give him the most authority. While he was head of security, he is not an investigator by trade, and would not go for any position where he would have to do any police work and all that it entails. In any position, he would work the factions against each other, climbing higher and higher as much as he can. If pressed, he might try working for SERO, mostly for the fact that they do human experimentation, and while not a scientist, as any person from Romdeau, it is something that interests him. But he can just as easily play a job there for something better when the time comes.
Appearance/PB:
Appearance Writing Samples
First Person Sample
Siren’s Port. A grotesque name for an even more grotesque city. Vermin would not deign to live in such a place if they had a sense of…cleanliness themselves.
Cleanliness. Even a world so devoid of the technology should have enough sense to clean its streets once in awhile, whether it be a dome or not.
[A soft noise of derision]
A new world can have the sense of a new beginning. This place is filled with people with a sense of desperation about them. Fear?
[A soft sigh.]
Not anything worthwhile. And not even an AutoReiv in sight. What a disgrace.
Third Person Sample
The nervous jitter compiled with the taste of bile in his throat was what first let Raul know that he was not, for the moment, dead. And while the undignified way of his passing was not lost on him, the anger that rose inside him at the way he needed to step away and hold the sickness within him was brief. What he needed to do, and do well enough, was enough to turn his thoughts to the last brief moments of life back in Romdeau. To think of the things in the past to overcome this embarrassment of being looked at and treated like this.
Like an immigrant.
He heard what was told to him, the generals of the time and place of his new existence, but he stored it for later. What use did it have at this moment? Nothing that would do him good. And while immigrants deserved to be treated as humans, he was in no shape or form one of those.
Or was. The idea of rebuilding was not an altogether unpleasant one. No one would need to know of his personal shame and disgrace. Whatever Regent was here, he could use his credentials to move back to his original position. Directors of Security had traditionally short careers, the burn out rate being significantly high, though understandable given everything the job entails.
The ones in the database and the ones that were not anywhere.
He straightened his back and adjusted his ascot. There was a crinkling sound in his pocket, much to his annoyance, and on further inspection he pulled out the drawing. There was a bit of blood smudged on the corner, otherwise marring the child like drawing of Pino and her papa. He could hear the tickling sound of a piano, much like his visions of Vincent, fleeting and only serving to raise his blood pressure a few points, which was not helpfully pointed out by anyone.
"Sir? Everything okay?"
A thinning of the lips was all he gave to show that he had heard the question. Folding the paper neatly, he placed it back into his pocket.
"Beautiful."
