Summary: Roxas teaches Axel how to skateboard. Sort of.

"Ow," Axel said for what felt like the hundredth time that day. He glared at the annoying piece of wood rolling away from him where it had slipped from beneath his feet. At least he had finally got the hang of it enough to move several yards. With just a thought he could easily set it on fire, reducing it to ashes in the blink of an eye, so as far as he was concerned it was in no position to continually be so contrary. Folding his arms across his chest, he considered doing just that.

"I can't believe you're so bad at this." Roxas coasted back to him, coming to a quick stop without so much as wobbling.

This struck Axel as entirely unfair, and he poked Roxas in the leg as he replied indignantly, "This is the first time I've been on one of these things, what can you expect?"

"It's called a skateboard," Roxas pointed out blandly. He got off the board, picking up as he moved out of Axel's reach. "And technically, you've been on it fourteen times, it's just you've fallen off each one." Though the words were dry, Axel knew the other boy was amused.

"I know that." Axel got to his feet, rubbing his backside. "All of which does nothing to help me stay on the damn board."

"I told you, it's just about balancing and finding your equilibrium, then building up momentum so you can grind."

"Regardless of how many times you say it, it still doesn't make it any easier." Axel walked over to the skateboard, putting one foot on it to move it back and forth but making no attempt to get on it. "And my definition of grind is definitely a lot more fun than yours," he added with a grin.

Roxas rolled his eyes, pointedly ignoring the side comment. "I've seen you fight, you're quick on your feet. I don't see why this is so much of a challenge."

"Because I don't fight on wheels." Axel let the board go and it rolled down the slight incline. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"

"Not particularly," Roxas said innocently. "Though it is kind of funny."

"How did you talk me into this again?"

"I didn't; you volunteered. Though if it makes you feel better, you can consider it payback for that 'gift' you gave me."

The corners of his lips curved into a grin. "Hey, the Kama Sutra is a valid choice. You said you liked old books."

"It was an interesting read."

"You read it?"

Roxas looked point blank at Axel. "What else was I supposed to do with it? You said, I believe, that I should 'put it to good use'."

"That isn't exactly what I had in mind," Axel said with a smirk.

It looked as though Roxas contemplated whether or not to smack Axel upside the head. "C'mon, get back on the skateboard."

Axel frowned slightly. "This doesn't seem like the most useful skill."

"You never know when it might need to know it."

In most instances the roles seemed to be reversed; it wasn't often that Roxas had to be the one to talk Axel into something. Axel wondered how much he could exploit being on the other side. "Such as?"

Roxas shrugged. "Any situation that seemed like it called for a skateboard, I guess."

"I'm expecting you to make this worthwhile later." Axel walked to where the skateboard had rolled. He got on it, a bit unsteadily, but he felt a twinge of pride as he managed to keep it in place.

Roxas gave a slight smile. "It's worthwhile now." That said, he took off around the corner. "Try to keep up this time!"

For a moment Axel looked in the direction Roxas had gone, then shook his head. "Yeah, maybe it is." Not one to be defeated, Axel pushed the board into motion and took off after Roxas.
