Was so tired last night I forgot to write anything. The last two days have gone by very fast. Yesterday I did get out to Chase to setup a checking account. Wells Fargo has no branches out here and their WaMu conversions won't finish until next year. The new accounts guy I got was a cute guy from Portugal so I made sure to work in what phrases I could. He got a lot more excited when I told him how much my retirement accounts are currently valued at. I go back in Monday to get everything rolled over. With that done I'll qualify for their $70k ultra account with free everythings.
Recently AdamB mentioned how he could do without food if his Internet is solid. Interestingly mine is not. The router and modem are in the back of the condo and I'm up front, so I get one bar with an occasional second. It's okay for the basic browsing but not for streaming, gaming, or chat. Went by Bestbuy and picked up a
Linksys Range Expander. Figured if it could sit in the middle of me and the router it would help, but goddamn is the thing hard to configure. Vista made the install fail so I tried to manually tweak it. After two hours I called tech support. After an hour I got a case number I could call back with. Next time the room mate is home I need to poke at the router.
I had to stick around today because my first three boxes were due to be delivered. Up until now I've felt like I'm a guest or on vacation or something. Yet now I have my super clock radio, XM Radio, XP machine, and a variety of clothing. It feels a lot more real. I was sorta hoping the XM Radio wouldn't work but it took a few seconds to find a signal; I'll probably keep it just go down to a lower service. The XP machine took some serious hits. The temperature read outs seem destroyed but the power and reset buttons look okay. Nothing internal looks bad. Unfortunately the tools, cabling, and monitor don't arrive until Monday.
I did get up to Atlantic Center again. Walked through this huge (for New York) grocery store called Quick Path or something. It was roughly equivalent to a Rainbow out in the Twin Cities or Smith's in Salt Lake. The prices were also quite reasonable for most things. It was a day off for most people so maybe it was unusual, but the lines were massive. Every available register was going with at least seven people in each line. The line the Customer Service desk had to wrap into one of the produce aisles. Wild.
Wandering Target I found a discounted end table that was shaped and sized perfectly for my room. Only problem was the dark cherry finish-everything here is Ikea white wood. But for $55 I wasn't caring. I needed somewhere to put remotes, a book or two, the radio, and water. Was a little troublesome on the train ride home but I made it. Still need a lamp.
As to the rest of the night I'm not sure. Would like to keep the spending down so I may stay in and watch a movie, read, or surf. Figure I can go out after the party tomorrow. But then… it's so easy to get downtown from here…
