Things That Make You Go...

While E and I were standing in line at Super Walmart, I noticed the cover of First (for women) Magazine. It said "Lose 46 Pounds By Thanksgiving". So, I pick it up because I just had to see what the plan was. I didn't really read the article, but skimmed enough to notice them talking about stepping away from the microwave and keeping your ( Read more... )

Er... well.. you know.
Stop microwaving your food, and stop calling out for takeout?

Seriously - the study sounds ridiculous. ;)

I know. It seems insane to blame weight gain on cell phone usage. Did the cell phone cause the person to eat the doughnut? LOL

I know they say it has to do with radiation waves and etc, but that seems so far fetched to me.

LOL That does sound very strange. The microwave I can see because maybe they want you to cook more? Instead of frozen meals? *shrugs*

I don't think it had to do with what you were cooking though. I think they were just saying you need to stand further back when using it because of the radiation or something along those lines.

If I go read the article, I'll update with what it says. lol

Isn't it though? They come up with some pretty far fetched reasons for weight gain.

Oh come on, you know how it works. There wouldn't be a diet industry if they said "There aren't any magic bullets, Evil Foods To Avoid, or secret ten-minutes-a-week yoga moves. Just eat less food while exercising all the freaking time like the people you evolved from did."

So, what do you do to keep selling the eternally hopeful on the idea that they don't have to give up eating good food and/or get six hours of moderate exercise a day? Make up bizarre rituals to satisfy people's basic belief that a low cost propitiation can have large scale pay off. After a few decades of that, you've got to be scraping the bottom of the vaguely plausible idea bucket.

Keeping the phone away from the bed = you get up to answer it thereby burning calories?

Stay away from the microwave = eat more fresh foods as opposed to frozen? Frozen foods are usually high in sodium and other preservatives, as well as fats in a lot of cases.

Those both make sense to me but I don't believe the microwave and cordless phones are the only answers to why people are gaining weight. Yeah, it does sound kind of nutso though.

Yeah, see they weren't saying to stand back from the microwave for that reason or even the cordless phone. It had something to do with the radiation or the vibes (or whatever) they give off. Very weird stuff!
