We'd like to put things up for discussion we received questions about in the last few days:

1) Do you consider the 250 fics rule (or 5% respectively) a fair way to judge character rarity? Should there be no rule at all and just leave it to the participants to nominate what they consider rare? Our personal thoughts on this matter are that a set ( Read more... )

I have a question. I believe that currently you have to offer two characters (minimum), and request two characters (minimum)? Exactly how does matching work - is it an "and" or an "or"? In other words, if someone requests character A and character B, and I offer character B and character C, are we a match? Thank you!

It's an "or". In that case, you could be matched on character B, because your fic only needs to include one of the requested characters, not all the requester asks for and not all you were matched on. Of course there's no limit on how much you can include if you want to do so ;)

Thanks. I figured you were doing it that way, but wanted to be sure.

1.) For a rare character fanwork exchange I think there should be a rule - I've seen a number of supposedly rare character/pairing challenges without one where fandom favourites were nominated and accepted, and it feels a little unfair. I'm iffy about 250 fics as a measure for rarity because it doesn't account for fandom size (that's a lot of fics for a small or medium-sized fandom, not very much for a large one), so on the whole the 5%-rule seems much fairer to me ( ... )
