Summary: Ron sells Pansy some Wheezes and displays his usual amount of tact. She is charmed nonetheless.
They met for the first time in several years in Diagon Alley. She had come in to buy an assortment of Skiving Snackboxes and Decoy Detonators, and Ron was instantly suspicious.
“What do you need those for, Parkinson? Scheming, as usual?” he asked viciously, ringing her up all the same.
Pansy arched one perfectly-manicured eyebrow at him. “My niece is starting at Hogwarts. As her favourite aunt, it’s my duty to buy her things she’ll really need while her mother picks up her textbooks.”
Ron snorted in laughter, but smothered it by coughing. “Don’t let her mum find out. Fleur went all Veela on me and George when we gave Victoire some Dungbombs. Course, she’s only 5,” he mused. “That may have been part of the problem.”
Pansy snickered at him. “You are an abysmal adult,” she declared, fishing in her purse for her Galleons.
He shrugged. “Mum says I’ll get what’s coming for me when I’ve got my own brood, but that doesn’t appear to be coming any time soon.” He leaned forward on the counter after handing her three Knuts in change.
“I’m with you,” she said agreeably, nodding. “Putting kids off as long as possible.”
“Is that why you broke off your engagement to Malfoy?” Ron asked nosily. He realized several moments too late that it may not have been a tactful question. Ginny undoubtedly would have smacked him upside the head for it.
Her jaw tensed momentarily before she forced a smile and a short laugh. Pansy turned towards the door. “No, that was because he’s not a ginger. I do so prefer redheads to blonds, Ron,” she said with a wink, exiting with a flirty wave.
He gaped in her wake, stunned for several seconds. “Guess I’ll be seeing you, then,” he murmured finally, a self-satisfied smirk playing on his lips.
