Summary: Minerva finds peace and happiness after finall accepting his proposal.
Notes: Dear squibstress I hope you like this. I’ve never really written these characters before but you’re prompts just spoke to me.
Minerva sat on the edge of her bed still feeling a little shocked at the days events.
Elphinstone had come by to see her and he once again proposed. This time, instead of declining, she had said yes.
So much had changed since they had last seen each other, and the one reason she had always held back was gone.
Dougal McGregor had been the love of Minevera’s life from the time she was a teenager until his death two years previously. Although she had chosen being a witch over their relationship, it didn’t mean that she loved him any less.
When news came of his death she had been devastated, and grieved him deeply, but eventually realised that she could now move on.
“He will make me happy,” she whispered to herself.
And he would.
Elphinstone had loved her since they worked together at the Ministry, and she doubted that he would have pursued her if it wasn’t the case.
I love him, she thought.
And she had for many years; just not as much as Dougal. Now, though, her heart and thoughts would only be of him, and she was looking forward to their future together.
A knock at her chamber doors brought Minerva out of her thoughts.
There was only one person who would come to see her at this time.
Walking to the door she opened it and said, “Hello, Albus.”
“Ah, Minerva. I wasn’t sure if you would be here or out with Elphinstone, but I thought I might pop by anyway,” he explained.
“Come in. I have much to tell you,” she said, stepping to the side to allow him entrance.
Albus walked in and took a seat in one of the chairs in the cosy sitting room.
Minerva sat opposite him on the faded copper loveseat.
“Is everything alright, you seem a little nervous?” he asked.
Smoothing her skirt down, she said, “I accepted Elphinstone’s proposal today.”
Surprise briefly flitted across his face.
“Congratulations, Minevera. What made you change your mind?” Albus asked.
“I realised that I love him. Not as much as Dougal, but enough to spend the rest of my life with him,” she paused before continuing, “I…I can now move on knowing that there will be no part of my mind that will wonder if he would ever give me a chance.”
“I’m glad that you have managed to find peace and happiness my friend. I’m sure Elphinstone will make a great husband,” he said softly.
“I’m sure he will,” she answered.
The day had been a happy one, but also quite tiring. It had been a long while since she had to face some of the thoughts and feelings that had raced through her mind today. Albus was right though, she had found some peace and happiness.
