“Did you ever think we’d be here?” Rabastan murmured, picking his head up to look at her.
Hermione turned over on her beach towel so that she was facing him. “Here literally? Or here figuratively?”
“Both, I guess.”
Rabastan smiled at her. Leaning over, he pressed a kiss to her forehead. “I’ve always wanted to visit the Caribbean,” he admitted.
“Oh?” she asked, curious as to why Rabastan had been the one to suggest their summer holiday be in the Bahamas.
“During my darkest times…” He paused, looking at Hermione. When she nodded for him to continue, he let out a deep breath. “I always imagined that instead of being trapped in the life that I was forced into, I was on an island, surrounded by crystal clear waters.”
“It was your escape mechanism,” Hermione murmured in understanding.
Rabastan nodded. It was always difficult to discuss his past with Hermione. The years trapped under the Imperius Curse cast by his brother had left him damaged. She was a saint for putting up with him.
“Well, does the view live up to all the expectations you had?” Hermione quipped cheekily.
Reaching over, Rabastan pulled Hermione on top of him. He grinned, tucking a stray curl behind her ear. “It’s even better because now the view includes you.”
Leaning down, Hermione lovingly pressed her lips against his.
