American feminists at fault for Sudanese prosecution of British schoolteacher for naming teddy bear "Mohammad" Of course. It's the *feminists* fault! *Feminists* are the ones driving radical Islam! It's so obvious! Why didn't I realize it before?

Actually, it was a much more personal vendetta against the teacher herself.

Why did I click on that faux link? Now I need to bleach my brain again.

You forgot the logic of "one feminist organisation wasn't interested in giving us a quote to twist, so naturally feminists are only interested in sucking up to teh islamists".

I really want to be the person who uses a good moral compass and says Muslims are really alright people who have been wrongly oppressed, and if someone would just listen to them fFor 5 minutes we might get somewhere. And then shit like this teddy bear thing happens. I mean, like, okay, Christian fFundamentalists are just as bat-shit crazy. But jail a woman?? Over a Teddy bear??? What next, kill people and riot around the world over some poorly drawn cartoonsOkay, okay, this is a slippery slope. The next logical thing to say then is that I will now start shunning all my Muslim fFriends as terrorists, which is clearly stupid. Those really are some stupid cartoons, drawn in what we can identify as, Poor Taste ( ... )

I don't think anyone can make a reasonable argument that Muslims have been wrongly oppressed in Sudan, nor is it American Muslims who are getting overwrought about a teddy bear ( ... )

So everyone gets their stupid protestors wanting stupid things. It's not oppressive to criticize other people's intolerance, their rioting over a few pictures, etc. In many cases it's the opposite. The problem comes when the people criticizing get to thinking that they are inherently better. It wasn't that long ago (in historical terms) that here in the states we had grown white men physically assaulting black girls in order to keep them out of the men's children's schools ( ... )

Also, a significant portion of the reason that we have fewer pro-life bombers is that they are trying to save other people's babies. Particularly in places like palastine (and now, thanks to us, Iraq) middle eastern bombers are trying to save themselves, their homes, families and communities from occupying forces. (regardless of whether or not Isreal has a right to be there, the palastinians still see them as an occupying force) It's a great big difference in motivation.
