Aaron pinged me the following article. This is our neighborhood--or rather, a nice lil' area less than a half mile away. Strangely enough, I'm loving the area that much more now:

This article actually enraged me. Yes, the North Side has it's issues, but it's just like any other urban neighborhood in any other city. I get so damned tired of hearing about how horrible this area is. I get that it was written at this time last year, but shortly after the article was written, the Garden closed down, and had the author dared to do any actual research, he probably would have known that ( ... )

Oh, I hear you, sister. I used to get (and still do) very irritated when I would tell people that I lived in Harlem, only to be met with wide eyes and gasps, to which I then had to explain that "no, it's really a very beautiful and safe area." But we all know that minorities are scary -- especially Dominican families! *facepalm*

The above article didn't enrage me, but I did find it pretty over-the-top. I've only been here a month, but my first thought upon reading it was "Holy Christ, it's not that horrible!" I admit that during our first few times walking through the neighborhood we were a bit apprehensive, but overall the area seems very nice--just, if anything, neglected.
