He's doing really well -- making progress every day. He still doesn't come when you call him, just kind of sits and stares at you. Although he is starting to come to Aaron, who is clearly his favorite person. He isn't one for hiding, either; he's totally a watcher of everything.
He doesn't seem to notice it. She didn't post any in this entry, but there are several pictures of him riding around on the back of her chair. I have to put him up there, but once he's there he seems to like it.
He's good around the chair and around all my noisy vents. The only thing he doesn't really like is if I drive too close to him, but then again, he's like that if you walk too close to him, too. Aside from the overall shyless, little seems to actully bother him.
The weird thing is that he's awesome outside. He walks with me through the park without a leash...regardless of how many people, dogs or squirrels pass us.
He still can't go down stairs, though (he kind of tumbles). But I did manage to teach him to go up the three flights to our apartment.
as for the stairs-isaac was really afraid, i had to go down on my rear end the first two weeks with him, he copied, but finally he got it. I don't think he will ever get the leash thing
I can get him to move on a 26' leash that is fully extended, but haven't made it past there yet. We're going to work on it today. He really hates them, but I want to be able to take him anywhere and everywhere, and that will require a leash. He just locks up and refused to move AT ALL with a regular-length leash.
When we walk without a leash, he follows behind me by about five feet.
He seems good with other dogs. He doesn't know how to play, but he's very nice to them. I'd like him to spend some time around yours to help get socialized (maybe we can all go to the park).
Where did he come from? By that I mean who's had him all these four years? Seems he should know how to go down stairs, jump on the couch, play, be house broken and walk on a leash by now.
Our understanding is that he's been caged and bred for the entire four years (which doesn't sound all that bad does to me, but I guess it's different for dogs). His puppies are the ones you find in pet stores. When his foster parents had him (he was with another family briefly before going to us...they had a half dozen other schnauzers that were very social and overwhelmed him), he crawled on his belly to them. Now we have him walking around the apartment and park, but he still has his hang ups. He's really getting better every day. Still pees inside sometimes, but we've figured out his schedule now....
He seemed somewhat autistic when we got him...didn't respond to anything (name, threats, etc.). But he's doing better every day through our 24-7 love therapy. Some things have not changed: he loves to be carried, loves to be held on your lap, loves to be hugged and loves to be pet. And we love these things too, so it's worked pretty well.
