Asylum 2009 Report Part Six - Sunday Mid-Morning/Early Afternoon (*G*)

Jun 03, 2009 22:01

3,992 words! And still only up to 3pm on the official schedule... So, we've had Jensen's talk, what's next?

Ah yes... The Gabe and Malik Show...

So. Jensen left the stage to lots and lots of cheering and excitement (after having done his amusing little dance and pose routine) and we were now waiting for Gabe and Malik to come back on stage... I figured there'd probably be a while between talks so I popped to the ladies but when I got back they were already on stage! With a bunch of girls...

And then they all started dancing! Turns out, after having promised to go to the disco on Saturday night, and after having been promised a car would pick him up to TAKE him to the disco, the car didn't turn up so he couldn't go. He felt bad about it cause he'd promised to have a dance with everyone so he invited a few volunteers up on stage to dance with him in front of everyone *g* (If you're one of those girls PLEASE tell me all about it!). Anyhoo, it was quite entertaining (he's a REALLY good dancer, and he made sure to dance with each girl at least once) and Gabe was watching the whole time and having a laugh etc. but I don't think he wanted to dance next to Malik cause, well, Malik is very good ;D

So then that all finished and they sat down and I honestly can't remember how it all started but Malik decided Gabe needed a pick-me-up so he got us all to do a chant (which he referred to as a football chant :D), he said we should try to say 'Gabe' at least 10 times but we managed WAY MORE than 10 and it was REALLY cool!

Gabe said afterwards that it was an amazing feeling and he wanted us all to follow him around and do it every time he felt down! So then of course he got us to do it for Malik, and I have to say - shouting 'Malik' repeatedly is not as easy as shouting 'Gabe' repeatedly :o)

Do you remember I told you how Gabe's friend had told him his power of mind control wouldn't help him if he was in a plane which was about to crash? (Er... I have just had a debate in my head about whether or not to tell this story in light of yesterday's events, but I have decided to tell it anyway because I don't believe anyone would take offense by it. If you have been personally affected by the plane crash which occurred, please accept my deepest sympathies and it might be an idea to not read the next few lines).

So, Gabe had mentioned how he didn't have a good answer for his friend when it came to how the power of mind control could possibly save him in a plane crash. Well... a woman gave him the best retort EVER... she told him that, in that situation, he could control GOD's mind and get him to land the plane safely! GOD! Gabe LOVED the idea and referred to being able to control God a few times later on, she got a really good reaction from the crowd too :o) Later on, someone asked Malik what superpower he wanted and he said he didn't fancy Mind Control so Gabe said "But you could control GOD!" *G* Malik settled on telekenisis eventually.

So someone who wasn't in the talk yesterday asked the guys how they got into acting - I didn't go into it yesterday because there's no way I could do Malik's speech justice, but the gist is that he dealt drugs in his young teens and had been shot and whatnot and a mentor helped him to find acting and use it as a way to connect with people and to have a much more positive influence on the world around him (there was a LOT more to it and I highly recommend you look it up on youtube). So when he'd answered the question the day before, he had spoken before Gabe so Gabe obviously said "I can't follow that!" (I actually found his story of trying to AVOID getting into acting very interesting too). So anyway, this time round, Malik told him to go first, but he mumbled a bit and when he said 'go ahead' Gabe misheard and said "Did you say Cocaine? Yes, that's how I got into acting." (I'm paraphrasing), those of us who'd been in the talk on Saturday had a giggle at that cause we kinda knew what was coming.

After Gabe answered the question (gist is, he was born and raised in LA and tried to avoid getting into acting but then found he really really enjoyed it and couldn't imagine EVER doing anything else), so Malik was up next and he started off with "Well, Cocaine IS how I got into acting." And we all laughed :D

The best bit of the talk, however, was when Doug (who was on stage with them) asked Gabe about his martial arts... which (somehow) lead to him telling us how he was good at breakdancing... he said he'd do a demonstration if he had a big bit of cardboard and Doug said that could be arranged if he was serious. At which point Malik told us he used to be a part of a breakdancing group the name of which escapes me (but it's presumably famous because Gabe was quite impressed) and he said he'd do a demo if we wanted.

So then he took all his stuff out of his (many) pockets (he handed Gabe his wallet and Gabe walked off stage to get out of the way, as did Doug, but Gabe moved quite far away and Doug said to Malik "he's taken off with your wallet!", Malik countered that he'd catch him later...). Anyhoo...

Malik did a bit of breakdancing. On stage. About 12 feet away from us. In case you hadn't already figured this out for yourself, Malik is COOL. Cooler than a very cool thing on a very cool day in the middle of something very cool.

He actually did it twice cause he wasn't happy with the first one. In fairness, the second one was better ;D (I'm pretty sure he got more twists out of the second one).

So THEN, just when you thought it couldn't get any better, a little boy (I'm gonna guess at somewhere around the 10 mark but I'm crap at judging ages) gets up to the mike and says "I want Ice Cream!" - a couple of people in the crowd laughed and clapped and I thought 'what the hell?' and then it hit me! Malik had said the day before that he'd choke the life out of any kid who came up to him demanding ice cream (assuming, as you would, that said kid must be a demon), while looking around for a mother or other parental unit...

Once someone had reminded Malik he got a big smirk on his face and told the kid to "get up here" and proceeded to pretend to strangle him! The kiddie was grinning like a mad thing the whole time and we were all in bits! Malik in the meantime is calling for the kids mum ('come on! you're a cute kid, you MUST have a proud mother somewhere!') so the mother comes to the stage and everybody exchanges pleasantries and Malik tells the kid (whose name was Sean, I think) he will make sure he gets some ice cream (he said to Doug "you'll definitely sort that out, yes?" and Doug said yes). The next thing that happened cracked me up, but maybe that's just me... he started searching through his pockets and called the kid back to the stage muttering something about how, when you've experienced as much of life as he has, you stop taking people's word for things "like 'yes of course we'll send a car to take you to the party'" so he gave the kid a tenner (according to Lucy, who swears the note was brown) so he could buy his own Ice Cream! Bless him :o)

Wait, hang on, there's ANOTHER best bit! Actually, you should just feel free to consider every minute these two were on stage as 'The Best Bit'.

So, Gabe has a film out called 'Skills Like This' which was due out a couple of days after the last con he did. At that con he pissed about trying to set a record for how many times he could say 'Skills Like This' so someone asked him about it and he did it again... with the crowd helping out by shouting things like 'what was that?' and 'what's it called again?', which was very entertaining (especially when Malik joined in). But THEN, the Big Screen joined in! All of a sudden, letters started appearing until they'd spelled out 'Skillz Like Dis?' (which made us all laugh obviously), Gabe just laughed with us, until he turned around and actually LOOKED at how it was spelt! He kept correcting the Big Screen, saying "No! It's spelt with an 'S'!!" and "It's not a question! It's a STATEMENT!!" and then, once the Big Screen had amended itself to say 'Skills Like This' it added '(dot com)' to the bottom (part of Gabe's litany had been to tell us the name of the website was 'skillslikethis.com'), so Gabe said "actually the full name is..." and then he said something along the lines of 'Gabe is Awesome and not short' and the Big Screen said... 'NO CHANCE' *G*

Someone asked Gabe if he got 'short man complex' being stood next to Jared and Jensen and he told us how, while they were blocking a scene, the director (or DP, not sure who does scene blocking) anyhoo, whoever it was asked Gabe to get into the shot and he said "I AM!"... they had to get him to stand on the stairs so he'd be in the shot!! Apparently when his mates saw the scene in 'Simon Says' when Sam is trying to stop Andy from leaving the junkyard (and is walking around him), his friends all said "Dude! How small ARE YOU?" - he had to point out he's not THAT short, it's just that Jared is HUGE!

Actually, that reminds me of a bit I missed from Saturday's talk... Gabe was asked about driving the Impala and he said he hadn't realised just how important the car was until he drove it... and EVERYONE on set was VERY nervous about him pranging it! (He's American, so he probably didn't say 'pranging'... but I can't remember the word he used, 'crashing' maybe?). He did also confirm that driving the Impala is in fact, AWESOME :D

The bottom line, with regards to the Comedy Stylings of Gabe and Malik, they really are both just adorable and lovely and FUNNY and endlessly entertaining, and they (like ALL of the other guests) were just so obviously happy to be there and to be having fun with us, and they were ALL very appreciative of us. Malik in particular was very genuine every time he said how much of a blast he was having during the whole weekend.

After Gabe and Malik came Fred, but Lucy couldn't risk eating too late again so we decided to miss his talk (which meant we pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves). The food was (again) WONDERFUL. I had the Salmon, in case you're curious ;D About 10 minutes after we sat down, an old couple sat down at the next table and Lucy said to them "I wasn't eavesdropping or anything, but I happened to overhear that, congratulations!" I had no idea what she was talking about, so I asked and it turns out they'd got married the day before! As I'm typing this it's occurring to me that Jensen and Jared (and Jason) had mentioned there being a wedding on at their hotel... wouldn't have been them though, but still, funny coinkidink ;o)

Sooooooo... after the lunch break it was Misha's photo-ops and Jared's talk with Jason... I was getting pretty antsy about the fact that I was going to have to risk missing my Misha photo by leaving it til the last minute (the schedule had Jared on stage 2-2.45 and Misha in the photo room from 2-3 so I was anticipating having to wait until 2.45 to get in the queue for Misha...). Anyhoo, the announcement for Misha came up while we were in the hall (and had been told there was going to be a delay) so I ran out to check the queue and it was already HUGE! So I thought 'fuck that!' and went back into the room. At which point I overheard one of the Red Shirts saying Jared wasn't there yet so I thought 'sod it, I'll queue up, and if I hear cheering I'll run back into the room!'.

So I go back outside to the huge queue and see people walking OUT of the queue... turns out, even though the sign clearly said it was just for people with Saturday tickets, most of the people in the queue had Sunday tickets! Once they'd all left there were only about 10 people left! So I got in the queue (listening carefully for cheering) and, due to the efficiency of the Blue Shirts, I was in the room pretty quick! Misha was hugging everyone and having a bit of a laugh and when a women went up to him with her daughter (who was probably about 5 or so) Misha said 'do you want to get on my shoulders for the photo?' the kid looked a bit dubious but he assured her it'd be fine and practically THREW her onto his shoulders, and then ducked down quite a lot when the photographer pointed out to him she'd be out of shot... I bet that was a VERY cool photo!

When it came to my turn I did my usual 'Hello, nice to see you' and he said 'Hi' and gave me a BIG HUG! A full on bear hug! And then he said thanks as I walked away (grinning a LOT) and THEN the photographer said "No! Wait! She's blinked!" I said "Sorry!" (cause I'm British ;D) and he said "Not your fault, happens all the time, we'll just do it again" so the Blue Shirt told me to hang on for a sec while he did the next photo so I could re-do mine! I walked back towards Misha and said (with a grin) "You made me blink!" and he apologised! Pretty sure he realised I was kidding though. And then he gave me an EVEN BIGGER HUG for the second picture!

By the time I left that room I was grinning and my hands were shaking and I was CHUFFED let me tell you :o)

I got back to the room and (quite excitedly) told the girls what had happened and they were all suitably happy for me *g*

Next up was Jared's talk, so I was quite excited, as you would imagine :o)

We're were sitting in what had become our usual spot, three rows back on the right (as you are looking at the stage) side, so Jared had to walk right past us to get on the stage, and every time someone asked a question from that side of the room he was looking RIGHT AT ME. Well... OK... it's possible he was looking at the person asking a question, but it FELT like he was looking at me :o) And, in case I didn't mention it before, that man is MESMERISING. There aren't words for how fecking gorgeous he is in real life (strangely, I find Dean much more attractive on the show... dunno why really). Anyhoo, he probably got asked some questions, and he probably answered them, but all I know is, he was sitting about 12 feet away from me for the best part of FORTY FIVE MINUTES!!!

I'm kidding, I DO remember SOME of the questions and answers... (*giggles* I'm having to check the notes I made on Sunday night... and I keep going 'oh yeah! forgot about that!').

Anyhoo, Jason started things off the same way he had with Jensen, asking him if doing a 'Sam and Dean' was automatic to them now (referring to saving the old lady who fell down the steps). Jared admitted he'd fallen down the same steps earlier the same day, while not tipsy and in broad daylight and then he was very modest about the whole 'rescue' thing. The two of them are just such gentlemen aren't they?

One of the first questions was 'which 5 people would you take to a desert island' and he said he'd want his family and friends there but then that'd mean his family and friends were stranded on a desert island they probably wouldn't thank him for that. A few people in the crowd said 'take me' and he grinned quite a lot :o)

He ended up saying a chef, an author, a musician (he pointed at Jason :D) and a couple of jesters. Personally I'd take someone who knew how to build boats out of driftwood but it was his question, not mine :o)

Did I mention he kept looking RIGHT AT ME?

He was asked about a theme song for Sam but couldn't really think of a good one and then someone shouted 'sexy back' and that got lots of cheers, Jared loved the idea too but I have no idea what song that is so I have no idea if it's accurate...

Someone asked what his perfect woman would be like and he said the same as he's said before - someone you can be friends with.

Jason then stopped proceedings so he could ask a question - "As a dog lover, what Dog Film would you recommend?" Jared cracked up at this so we all knew there was a good story coming... Jared asked Jason if it was Jensen who'd told him the story and can I just take this opportunity to complain about everyone's names starting with the same letter? I'm getting CONFUSED!

Anyhoo, Jason started telling the story by mentioning Jared wearing sunglasses and Jared interrupted "No, that's not the start! There's a lead up... didn't Jensen tell you what happened first?" Jason confirmed that Jensen had NOT told him what happened first (for reasons which quickly became obvious) so Jared said "OK, I'll tell the lead up, and then you can tell the rest"...

So Jared, Jensen and their mate (and presumably some others but those were the only 3 mentioned) are on the plane on the way back from Australia, Jared glances across the aisle and sees Jensen wiping tears from his eyes... he asks what's happened and Jensen admits he's watching Marley and Me and says "it got to me, man", Jared takes the piss out of him and then a little while later his sees his (big, burly, manly) mate sitting next to him ALSO crying at Marley and Me. So he decides he's gonna have to give up and watch it too...

Jason takes over the story and tells us Jensen's version of events - he looks over to Jared and sees him wearing sunglasses, so he asks him why... Jared takes his glasses off and he is BLUBBING! UNCONTROLLABLY! Jared smiled and said "what can I say? it really got me." Apparently he'd already read the book (which he recommends) but presumably he wasn't expecting the film to be as sad.

In case you wondered, this right here? Made me love him EVEN MORE.

Jared was asked if he'd read Jim's book (apparently there's a dedication to him and Jensen) and he spoke about what a wonderful human being Jim Beaver is and how great the excerpts he's read are and how he can't wait to read the whole book.

By the way, throughout this talk, Jared was STILL having serious trouble understanding people - he kept having to ask Jason to repeat questions. Mind you, Jason wasn't having much more luck understanding us!

When asked about fashion disasters, Jared told us about his brother giving him a REALLY short hair cut (sounded like a grade 2 at least) when he was about to start a new school, making his mother cry with worry over how he'd be treated at the new school. Bless.

And then came the VERY funny 'cowboy' question. For any American's reading this who don't already know - we generally refer to 'Westerns' as 'Cowboy Films'... so when someone told Jared that Jensen had told us he'd like to do a Cowboy Film it made perfect sense to us, but Jared heard as far as 'Jensen told us he wants to do a cowboy...' and CRACKED up! And then said (in a funny high pitched voice) "Jensen wants to do a cowboy???" We laughed. A LOT.

Someone explained and he said "oh, right, we call them Westerns..." *G*

I seem to remember he said he would like to do one, and that he'd LOVE to do a Western themed Supernatural ep.

When asked what kind of funny outfit he'd like to wear on the show if he got a chance (a la the Gym Shorts) he thought about it for a sec and then said he'd like to dress as a Hot Dog :o) Because he could be naked under there and no-one would know...

He couldn't really think of a favourite quote at first but then he suddenly said "I lost my shoe", which got a few cheers! He also told us he thinks Sam believed he was in love with Ruby (he was trying to be vague about why he didn't think that anymore, not wanting to spoil people. Considering he's usually the Spoiler King he was VERY good at not spoiling the people in the audience who haven't seen the last few eps). Anyway, that came as a bit of a surprise to me since I'd assumed he just looked at her as someone who could help him out... and then it occurred to me that he (Sam) mostly saw her as a weird (fucked up) replacement of sorts for Dean. And I am assuming Jared meant that Sam was kind of starved for someone to care about and so convinced himself he cared about Ruby. He did actually correct himself a bit by saying he thinks Sam really believed he CARED about Ruby a lot (until you-know-what happened - he was still trying to be as vague as possible). Anyhoo, that made me look at a lot of things in a different light and I feel even MORE sorry for Sam at the end of Lucifer Rising now! Poor lamb.

He was asked why he keeps insisting he wants Sam and Dean to die at the end of the show and he said he just thought it'd be great for them to go out in a blaze of glory, and about how much he LOVED Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, he also confirmed again that he could no way see the show existing without both brothers, since their relationship is what the show is all about.

Just as he was finishing up he started doing a cockney accent which was cracking me up, I also thought it was pretty good but since I'm not cockney I wouldn't really know... and as he was walking off stage a song started which (judging by his and the crowd's reaction) I'm assuming was Sexy Back. He laughed and walked RIGHT PAST ME AGAIN.

Have I told you how much I love that man?

I'm going to end this part here because I'm starving and my hand is killing me.

End of Sunday Part Two!

Coming up in Part Three...

Matthew seems VERY hungover and says something adorable about his plans for the future. I ask Sam and Amy a question and have 3 million heart attacks while doing it... and then I turn into a stalker while Jared turns into a burglar...
