Ahah- my man is Ye Yong. Good to know. The subs call Fu Tong a Censor which I suppose is what he is. Hao Jing looks familiar- I shall keep my eyes open for him.

Thanks immensely for this.

Ah hah. And Bo Pi is the guy I had visually confused with Shi Mai there. (These names, you know, are unfortunate from an English speaker's pov, but at least it allows me to remember them. 'Little Bo Pi has lost his seal and don't know where to find it...')

And if Wu is Gryffindor (not with a king like that, it's not) has anyone remarked on the resemblance between Wu Zi Xu and a post-Atkins Dumbledore?

Also mustn't gripe but... lotsa old men among the middle-aged men among the solid 30s men; and none of the women looking a day over 21. So I'm griping. Given how much de facto say the women seem to have in government, you'd think there'd be some solid aunties around, the kings' first wives and mothers of the princes. But no: fresh-faced wives and concubines, the lot of them. Hmph. Fan service.

Actually my sister said he looks like Gandalf. And He Lü looks like an old drawve; Gloin maybe.

the kings' first wives and mothers of the princes.

Well there is one, Fan Li's mom, later on. Formidable auntie, that one.

Hahaha yeah. Actually they don''t age at all throughout the series, which is pretty weird; let's say Yu Yi is 13, and let's say Ya Yu had him at 15 (going a little young here but probably not ridiculously so). So she'd be 28 at the beginning of the series. Three years in Wu, plus about twenty years back in Yue, she'd be 51 by the end; and those twenty years show on Gou Jian but not on Ya Yu. So yes, fanservice, I think. Or maybe it's too much of a hassle to do ageing make-up on everyone.

Thank you so much! This is most useful indeed.
Especially for the Yue generals since the only one that left an impression (other than Shi Mai) was Linggufu.

司馬 is probably cognate with the Master of the Horse (second in command to the Dictator in times of emergency/war) in the Roman republican era.

Completely pulling this out of my ass here, but 太史 might be akin to Censor (archivist/historian, they who document imperial acts etc. very anal and obsessive-compulsive, yes.)

太宰: vizier? when combined with 相國 --> 宰相 in later era = prime minister

行人: Consul in the equivalent sense of an American consul or such (ie representative of country)? Though 行 would tend to suggest some equivalent of the praetor peregrinus (literally wandering praetor) in Roman times who went around as representative of the Republic/Empire to the various territories ( ... )

You're welcome, glad to be of help. Seriously no need to apologise, thank you for your helpful information.

perhaps his mom wasn't of noble blood
Thought of that too but I don't remember anyone making a fuss about that when it bacame apparent he was a candidate they way they did with Ji Kuai. Or maybe they did and I just forgot.

Wow, thank you. ^__^ I could never quite tell all the generals of of Yue apart, except for Ling Gu Fu, whom Guo Jian seduces to his side in that rather memorable scene with torches. :D

You're welcome! :D Hahaha yes that torch scene, I can't believe I skipped it the last time round. I took to telling the generals apart by when and how they died... >_>
