... a tegaki a day keeps the creative block away?

Or something like that.

Because I cannot resist a pun, ever since I saw Shunsui's name kanji (i.e. since forever) I've wanted to do something with Li Yu's Beautiful Lady Yu vaguely in mind (other translations here and here). It's my cultural inheritance and I'LL MISUSE IT IF I WANT. >__ ( Read more... )

Can you explain the pun? I am not of the same cultural background. *giggles*

Lovely art, though.

Thank you.

Shunsui's written with the kanji for Spring and Water, and the most famous lines in the poem I linked are the last two, "How much sorrow must one man bear/ As much as a river flowing eastward in the spring." And the last bit "river flowing eastward in the spring" is literally "a river of Spring Water flowing east." So yeah. >____>

Oh, cool! I followed the link!! That is just gorgeous and I love having both the traditional characters, the phonetics, and the meanings both direct and put into real English.

I only spoke Mandarin until I was six, so if I can sound it out I can figure out what's being said. *laughter* But I'm basically illiterate with respect to Chinese characters. But it was really cool to be able to sound it out and understand... Thank you! Now I have to wander about that site for inspiration as well.
