SUMMARY: Brief overnight scene of sending a search update back to Martin via Selkie.
CHARACTERS: Merrisol, Raphaela, and NPC Nalwin (Merrisol)
Seven rib bones poking up from the undersea landscape of a whale carcass mark the search perimeter four hundred feet out. There was still a lot of territory to cover by the time they went back up for lunch, or at least drinks. They had a couple of visitors in that time, Lord Quinlan popping in to talk Rebman news with Maggie and Merri, followed by another Pathian named Alonzo. Both mages went overboard with Merrisol that afternoon, but apparently there wasn't any kissing involved! They came back up by sunset, with a definitive list of coordinates within the search area, magically acquired, one might assume. Now, the inky blue sky is spangled with cold points of light, a large moon sitting low to the horizon and defining every swell in the sea. The ship at anchor lists languidly from side to side, with few lanterns lit on deck in well-traveled areas. Merrisol is on deck, leaning at the rail and apparently gazing right over the side into the water. And talking to it? "When was the last census? Can they even be sure of the true number taken?"
Raphaela pads over loudly enough, intentionally, then pauses, leaning on a railing a bit to side if he talks trumpwise to allow him his privacy.
"Of course not, but it can't be helped when no one speaks up!" says a distant-ish voice. That's not a loud trump, either. Down in the water, the head and shoulders of a dark-maned being crests the surface of the gentle sea swells, all puckish smiles even though the topic seems serious. Attention slides over to the movement further along the railing, and the Selkie hails, "Fair Eventide to you, lovely lady!"
Raphaela looks over, entirely unshocked "Hello." she smiles "Am I interrupting?"
Merrisol half-turns to spot Raph down a ways. "Good evening. This is Nalwin.. Nalwin." He hesitates just a touch. "..Raphaela. He's brought an update from Martin.. nothing good, unfortunately." He leans over again to say, "And nothing to report on this side, either. Tomorrow, we will know more."
Nalwin grins big at Merrisol. "Don't even try to withhold anything from a Selkie, bub! We know just about everything already!" He manages to convey an exaggerated wink up at Raph.
Raphaela nods to Nalwin with an amused smile at the wink "Nice to meet you."
Merri says patiently, as though part of a staged routine, but with a part he didn't particularly sign up for. "Then get off your duffs and fix things yourselves!"
Nalwin laughs, "And get all the heroes' accolades? No way, we're strictly behind-the-scenes operations! Best of luck, milord and milady! I'll be back later to hear your good news!" He grins again, then flips below the waves, out of sight.
Merrisol turns his gaze moon-wards. Man.. he hates that guy soooo much.
Raphaela looks into the waters. "Cute." Raph and monsters.
"Can't sleep?" Merri asks after a moment's silence.
Raphaela's grin is a flash of teeth in moonlight "I rarely sleep, Fuffy. What are the news if it's not a secret?"
Merri turns his back to the rail, still leaning. "More Rebman kids gone missing. Not orphans this time, so now it's high alert and up in arms. What's the secret behind the barely sleeping and eating..?" Her turn!
Raphaela shrugs "I never slept a lot. Consider it a bit of a waste of time." uh huh.
Merrisol nods. "Fine." He must not have slept for a while himself, what with trumping back and forth to Rebman last night, and keeping some vigil tonight as well, looks like. "I'll need your help tomorrow morning." Because now that they have the magic clue map, each spot marked by order of size, it's bound to be one of those places. Won't be long now.
Raphaela nods and turns on heel "Better prepare everything, then." she pauses and says "NIghtmares. Can't sleep unless I tire myself out." she says and walks away.
Merrisol watches for a few seconds, then frowns deckwards. "Great."
