New engine: $990.
Labor: $1320.
Rental for a week: $186.

Having a car that starts up clean, runs very smooth, and performs like new: Pricel.. er, I mean $2500, and so worth it :D

Hope it's a car you love to be worth that much. :)

Woah. Must've missed this some how. It wasn't a question of love, it was a purely objective financial decision. Used car would have cost me at least twice that, I would have no idea what I would be getting with a used one, and in mine, a lot of the other parts have been replaced fairly recently (except for the transmission, which is the next big thing I expect to crap out). I figured I'm essentially spending half of what I would have to pay for a used one, while getting the same reliability and performance. Plus with this engine, my car's blue book/resale value jumped from $2,300 to $4,100, so you could say that although I spent a lot, due to my net-worth increase, this only cost me $700. I COULD say that, but unless I plan to sell this car tomorrow, I obviously won't :)
