I recommend an Australian shiraz/cabernet sauvignon blend, perhaps Jacob's Creek or Rosemount Estate. Good supermarket wine for under ten bucks a bottle!
Well that almost goes without saying. As for how, I'll admit that I'm a bit of a traditionalist in this respect, but I find you seldom go wrong with the oral method.
(I'll second Duncan's suggestion of wine, or, if you can find some, a good strong Belgian ale. St. Bernardus is nice, and Golden Monkey is a nice domestic brewed in that style, with alcohol content on par with a standard wine.)
