Definition: What is online friendship? Friendships that started and are primarily maintained online.

How many people met through
- mailing lists?
- LJ?
- newsgroups?
- other?

Distinguish between friendship and acquaintanceship -- where are the lines? For example, exchanging real names, talk on phone or chat, frequent exchange of email? Knowledge of each other's real life? Discussion of life beyond fandom?

What do we perceive as different between online friendships and RL friendships? Not necessarily better or worse, but what's not the same?Access? Ability to project self onto the other's words?

Some people's friendship style works better online, others off. Discuss.

Transitioning from online to real life, and vice versa. How does this work? Are there pitfalls? What if each has different expectations?

What makes friendships click? Good communication is what does it. Can you move beyond small talk and say what's really on your mind.
