Faith in People

I feel like a lot of people I know tend to have very little faith in People, or Humanity in general, but are pretty willing to give the benefit of the doubt to individual humans they meet. Maybe I'm wrong, and most of my friends are really the other way around? Or neither? I'm curious whether this is something I can get at in a poll, and have ( Read more... )

As you know, I was burned by a very close (former?) friend recently, so current events may be skewing my thought process at the moment. The incident has made me question whether I'm ever capable of truly trusting an individual again, but I wonder if that will be trumped by my instinctive need to trust people as individuals ( ... )

This may be a silly question, but doesn't it kind of depend on what kind of individuals you know?

I think for me it's more of a theory/vs practice question. In theory I trust people, but in magical theory land the 2% of the time when people suck they can't hurt me. In practice, I am more on guard against the small percent of people who do bad or ignorant things, because they could be hiding anywhere, and the bad things they do will really effect me, so I can't discount them as a tiny ignorable percentage. Individuals are less theoretical to think about than humanity, so I have more doubts about them.
