why on earth? Because thats how its suppose to go. Plus its not mesh. I don't understand why people flip out over auto's vs stick. Yes its a 5 speed, but if it wasn't why would it make a difference? Do you not like people who don't have to shift? They must be Lazy sob's right.
and don't even factor in "Its more fun to drive a stick" Okay, i've been driving that stick for the last half year and the only time its fun is at the track.
Put a hurst shifter in there or drive an acura around for a while and you'll see what I mean.
Also, the reasons for having a manual in a sports car is multitude, though some are less important with the advent of more efficient, multi-speed (I mean 5-6 speed) automatic transmissions and clutchless manuals (like BMW's SMG gearbox).
Better gas mileage More alert driving Much more control over the car, especially regarding weight distribution in turns More power (torque converters add weight and make the drivetrain less efficient, you lose power through it) Easier to customize driving experience and transmission responsiveness (via swapping out short shifters, clutch plates, etc)
Stock Bullitt mustang GT runs 14.3, with a V8. Standard mustang GT ran 14.7. There is no way you posted almost 14 flat on a v6 platform with an intake and exhaust slapped on.
And a 99-04 GT deffinatly runs lower 14's than 14.7... and the HP difference is about 80 between the GT and V6. Givin a few bolt on parts, and the right tuning, plus a gear ratio of 3.73 it's not impossible to make an already fast v6 a faster v6.
I don't expect you to ever agree with me mostly because the predisposed hatred for mustang owners that most people have.
Wrong. Even according to your article, that was after about 3 entire lines of modifications: Right off the bat, he knew the car needed some performance tweaking. First he installed 3.73 gears, SLP long tube headers with matching x-pipe, cold-air intake, Predator programmer, underdrive crank pulley, rear control arms, bump steer kit, camber/caster plates, bigger rear sway bar, 1995 Cobra R springs, and 18x9, 18x10 Wheel Replica Bullitt wheels. The car responded well with the new parts. Quarter mile performance improved from 13.9@100.1 stock to 13.4@102.9I could see 13.9 from that stock Bullitt, since cars tend to get faster after being broken in, and that had 3500 miles on it. I got all my numbers from this article
( ... )
Btw, this article shows the v6 mustang completing the quarter in 16 seconds.
Even assuming, BEST CASE, that the car was not broken in, and even if it got a few more hp from an intake and exhaust, there is NO MATHEMATICAL WAY you achieved a 14.03 second quarter mile. Sorry.
I mean, jesus, look at the guy in the article you posted, he put on 3.73 gears, headers, x-pipe, intake, programmer, crank pulley, and new springs and he shaved .5 seconds off his ride, and that was a Bullitt GT. Sorry charlie, not buying it.
The NEW 2005 v6 mustang takes like 15.3, according to car and driver. Just admit you tried to pull one over on us and you'll be better off.
When I had a V6 Camaro I'd get a lot of kids in newer V6 Mustangs wanting to drag me from a light. Pulling 3+ car lengths on a V6 Mustang is no problem for a V6 Camaro, which runs mid 15s.
A combination of shitty stock gears and an inferior 3.8L V6 make the V6 Mustang pretty sluggish.
Yea, that 1/4 mile is bullshit. Until you post proof, which you won't be able to do, because unless you've removed 90% of your interior you're not even getting past high 15s.
Probably. I've seen some very quick turbocharged V6 Mustangs. The last bodystyle had a lot of room under the hood for fun things like turbochargers and intercoolers.
When I was hanging out with the V6 Camaro crowd, it was always a natural battle between the two and forced induction, as fitting a turbo under the hood of a 4th gen V6 Camaro is quite the challenge.
The great part about forced induction on a V6 Mustang or Camaro is that after you're done, you're still only just as fast as the V8 counterparts.
Heh I saw a guy the other day with a trans-am that he'd turbocharged, it was so weird to look under his car from the back and see the turbo mounted all the way back there.
