"Monet's philosophy of painting was to paint what you really see, not what you think you ought to see"
I've always thought that this is the most basic and most important thing a person can know about drawing or painting, and yet somehow most art classes forget to remind you of it. Monet. What a badass.
You're not a geek for reading up on the exhibition--you're totally smart! It's like how opera is almost always better if you know something about it.
