The Cisco name dates to 2000, so it's not like Jobs could have predicted needing the nam several years before the big 'i' of iPods even existed. They were in talks and supposedly had a principle of a deal in place when they did the iPhone announcement.

First, use a PC World link... help an LJ friend out. :)

Second, they were in discussions with Cisco to use the name before the announcement, but the negotiations weren't complete. Then Cisco had a hissy and filed a lawsuit.

I saw they were in discussions, but it would have been good to nail that down a little better before doing a giant worldwide release :)
