I'm assuming that you are trying to do this without spending money, because otherwise I'd assume that you'd hire a private investigator to tackle the search for you.

Since you mention that this person has addiction issues and a police record, I'd probably start with trying to speak to some officers from the Vancouver police department. They might put you in touch with whichever department last encountered him.

There are those people-finder services for like $40, if it's worth that to you. My dad found his estranged sister (and her college-aged son) that way, and no one had heard from her in nearly a decade. But then, neither she nor her son was homeless - but we weren't totally sure of her current last name.

I agree with Nancy. I'd try law enforcement first. Perhaps they can even connect you with some recent mug shots to help you narrow down the common name. Good luck with your search.
