I found a message in a bottle yesterday. It's from a little girl in Connecticut. I'm trying to think of what to write to her, since obviously I'm obliged to respond. I just came back to this, so forgive the late reply.

I think that the reason people feel there's no magic in the world anymore is because society has progressed from an earlier belief in magic to belief in science. This happens throughout the course of a life as well. A child is fascinated by everything, but slowly the amazing things they see are named and studied and organized, and they cease to emit readily visible magical qualities. Finding that childlike wonder again is the key to finding magic in the world as an adult.
