NT women and shoes

Is it common for NT women to not care for shoe shopping and to prefer shoes that are comfortable over those that are fashionable, trendy, or sexy?

Though I do like shopping in general, designer clothes, and silk very much, I also admit that I dislike shoe shopping. I do not find it fun at all. I usually buy new shoes only when I need to replace a worn-out pair. There are exceptions, of course- such as buying a set of interview or party shoes or sandals. But even my most stylish ones are Hush Puppies or Dyeables closed low-heeled pumps that I can wear with thick hose easily.

And what kind of shoes do the ladies here like to wear? I like Mary Janes (Dr. Martens or Ecco), hiking boots and oxfords (Timberland or Eastland), Hush Puppies low pumps (which I only wear on dressier occassions), and closed boots with a low heel (ankle, mid-thigh, or knee length). I like my shoes comfortable, not too clunky, and that can be worn with socks or at least nylons (though I prefer knee-highs to pantyhose). My best friend does wear flip-flops or Birkenstocks, which I do not like, but she also has a few pairs of heeled sandals or espadrilles that I would not wear either. And she is not into Mary Janes like I am. Otherwise, both of us definitely like the comfortable shoes and boots very much.

I do have a slight limp, but I do not know how much could this account for. I also have allergies that make me need to wear socks/hosiery and closed shoes or else I will get the sniffles. Do not know how much this accounts for either. Finally, I'm 8W. Not an uncommon size, I know, but a bit above average.

And for the life of me, I cannot figure out why would some women spend more than a month's rent on a pair of shoes by Manolo/Jimmy Choo/whomever. Shoes that probably do not allow you to walk more than a couple blocks without getting hurt. Shoes that could lead you to twist your ankle. Shoes that would prevent you from running away from an assailant or kicking him (or the vending machine). To me, pain and discomfort are not attractive. Neither is financial irresponsibility.

If I could wear Mary Janes with socks everywhere, I would. And in the colder months, hiking boots with socks everywhere.
