Robots vs Aliens

The latest Heroes comic, "Flying Blind", seems to be about N vs S. I'm rather curious... What are your reactions to the comic? What does the comic say to you, and do you agree with it?

I agree. It definitely hit the topic. The only thing I wonder is if the flying character was actually an N. He talked an awful lot about the details of what he was doing, and the abstract he seemed to get was "the trophosphere has several different flavors". He wanted to feel more abstract, but I don't think he actually was (I'd buy off that he was in the middle though).

It's weird, but I got the impression it was written by an N type who basically wanted to write a poetic piece in the Romantic style, which means lots of imagery, which means that it's so sense intensive that the character doesn't come off as an alien.

Hm... You have a good point there. The flying does seem very SP with the smell of pizza and the feel of water vapors. I can see West himself as an ISTP. The comic could be another case of everybody else being the aliens and the only the SJs being the robots.

That's what I was thinking. It's of course possible for an S to be introspective, the real queston is in how they experience it. His experience of outsidishness seemed pretty much related to having a special skill and girls turning him down, very much real stuff. I'd guess for us N's we experience outsidishness that way too, but with probably more of a feeling about "the universe" or whatever seemingly logical explanation of metaphysics.

Funny that I walk into this community with all the discussion on S types. To be honest, J's probably reach into my craw a bit more. At worse, S types are a bit flaky or uninspired. J types tend to be more willing to enforce rules. I guess rationals probably has quite a few J's, so focusing on that end of the deal would just create intercene warfare.

Oh, speaking of SJ's, I;ve always enjoyed this desription of them from this site (http://www.xeromag.com/fun/personality.html) :

For an ISTJ, work is very important to a sense ( ... )

I'd have to disagree with that. I think the comic implies that he feels like an alien because he's not content to follow the rules without questioning them, and that can represent any N or any P in an SJ world. I don't get the impression that he gets turned down by girls much; I don't get the impression that he even wants to pick up most girls either. He probably even looks down on guys who want to pick up girls because it's a very robot thing to want. (OK, maybe I'm projecting a little.)

Not really. Given the nature of the MBTI, the probability is reasonably good that any MBTI group would be participating in some form of S-bashing at any given point in time.

> To be honest, J's probably reach into my craw a bit more. For me, it's the Fs (at least the immature ones). I'm good with my T, and my N lets me easily explain why what I want is ( ... )
