Dumas' work is really fucking terrible. The French romanticists all suck in general. The Count of Monte Cristo is a complete hunk of shit..and wait a minute, Hugo wrote the Hunchback!

i remember reading the three musketeers at some point in my life, and i'm pretty sure he wrote that. looking back on it, it was a waste of time: historically inaccurate, and depending on the translation i guess, awkwardly written. if your mission's to alleviate the everpresent boredom, you could probably do better.

i'm still recommending ishmael, by daniel quinn, to people, and i read that like a year ago. if you were looking for a reason to hate the neolithic revolution, as i'm sure we all are, go with that one.

As a rule the French Romanticists tended to just be really fucking boring and have no idea about what character development was. Of all literary movements, they are my least favorite. They of even worse than those objetivist shmucks.
