I'm going abroad, and it seriously can't come quickly enough. In the mean time, TV. I'm so glad I have my legit,
official blog. It'll look great on my resume.
Parks and Recreation 2.09
Watching “Parks and Recreation” has been somewhat of a habit for me. I’m a big fan of Amy Poehler (Leslie Knope), Rashida Jones (Anne) and Aziz Ansari (Tom) so tuning in week after week was something I needed to do. This season I’ve really enjoyed the show itself, but after this week’s episode I think I may have fallen in love with it.
Normally, “Parks and Recreation” has a few funny moments, but the weak ones tend to overshadow the good. This episode, though, had excellent main and secondary plots. The A story involved the hilariously racist “Spirit of Pawnee” mural. The whole Parks Department gathered to create a winning design for a new mural. I particularly enjoyed how all the characters, even the background ones, interacted. Jerry is quickly becoming the joke of the department. Despite creating a wonderful mosaic of people in Pawnee, he accidentally called it his “murinal,” which everyone proceeded to laugh at.
My personal favorite was April the intern’s multimedia piece, which featured a bleeding guy eating raw meat in a hamster wheel while a TV played a looping video of knee surgery. I couldn’t stop laughing as Leslie stared at the art and asked “Why?”
Tom, who described himself as having “zero interest in non-nude art,” paid a local abstract artist to do his design. Watching Tom fall in love with the abstract piece was equally funny, specifically when he talked about “the shapes.” He was very enthusiastic about “the shapes.”
The B plot revolved around Ron Swanson using Andy’s new shoe shining business to soothe his aching bunion. On his third trip to Andy’s setup, Ron emitted a long moan. The noise itself wasn’t hilarious, but Andy’s horrified reaction was. In his “talking head” interview, Andy shouted “WHAT THE ****” at the camera, looking completely disgusted. That’s why I love Andy - because he doesn’t hold back his feelings and emotions. In some ways he’s the rawest character there. Eventually Ron and Andy agreed not to mention the moan again, but thankfully we, the viewers, can enjoy that moment over and over.
In other news, I watched the new Who special. Man I'll miss David Tennant, I'm so eager for the final special. Do you know the first part of "The End Of Time" airs stateside on December 26th? It airs on Christmas in the UK! I can't believe how quickly Britports are crossing over here. Love it! (even if I watch it online first)
What I don't love is David leaving. I'm not even prepared to handle it, and I'm sure I'll be sobbing hysterically, on par with Rose's exits. Or not, recall Rose has her own Doctor, so an incarnation of Ten will always exist. And Doctors can always come back, I'm still praying for Nine and Ten to meet.
