Skins Series 4
OK this will be totally incoherent and angry, but I need to vent about the utter piece of shit that was the ending to the fourth series (and final for this cast).
It all started when, all of a sudden, Effy became psychotic and tried to kill herself. Which made no sense because there weren't any signs prior to Freddy's episode. See, a GOOD show would have given some indication that Effy was nothing more than nervous about being in a loving and committed relationship. But now she's mental and hearing voices.
But that's not it. Believe me, that plot line alone would have pissed me off and sent me on a tear about the state of the show. If the writers had set up Effy as having serious mental health issues at any point in the show, I'd be cool. To be fair, she was mute for a while, but again, no signs of progression (or regression)
So what could be worse than sudden onset insanity? Effy's shrink being a complete lunatic and killing Freddy. Yeah... I love Freddy, but I haven't had any emotional reaction to his death because of how batshit crazy the circumstances were. I mean, this was beyond Tony randomly getting hit by a bus at the end of the first series (which we later learned caused Effy great stress, would have been nice to see some indication of this beforehand)
And since this happened in the penultimate episode, I knew this week's couldn't possibly undo the damage. Actually, a lot of damage was undone for the characters. Emily and Naomi made up in the span of 4 minutes after a 30 minutes breakup. Panda and Thomas are going to Harvard together, which is weird because there have been no indications that Panda is intelligent at all and Thomas didn't graduate college (high school)
To top off this quick rap up and descent into complete shit, we don't even know if Cook lives or dies, because the show ends with him attacking Effy's shrink. I think I'm done with the show. I don't want to bother to get involved with a new cast if they'll just fall victim to really shitty planning and plots.
